As part of the effort to promote literature that we have carried out in the community, Writing Club is pleased to announce a new special activity. Promoted by the love of literature, we are in constant search of strategies to provide a space for all those who take refuge in the letters, reading and all this beautiful world.
Creating Gothic Narrative
The gothic narrative was born in the complex era of Enlightenment England, inspiring hundreds of works and authors that are counted among the annals of history. Among some characteristics of the genre are: it is always set in some kind of medieval architecture (such as a castle, places are fundamental in this type of literature) and the protagonist is always surrounded by irrational desires, emotional excesses (depression, anguish, paranoia), supernatural events, monsters, curses and an eroticism tinged by romance.
Horace Walpole is considered the father of the genre with his novel The Castle of Otranto, influencing a whole generation of writers of the so-called enlightened neoclassicism. Making use of disproportionate reason and with elements typical of romanticism, the gothic novel gained a place in a time when ideas flowed in prose.
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey, Nathaniel Hawthorne's Young Goodman Brown and Ann Radcliffe's The Mysteries of Udolpho belong to an exquisite compendium of immortal works of the Gothic genre.
Ann Radcliffe in particular inspired many authors of her time, especially women. Considered a bastion and a true forerunner of the genre, she was born on July 9, 1764 in London, England. She gained notoriety with novels such as Forest Adventures (1791) and The Italian (1797), although her most famous work was The Mysteries of Udolfo (1794).
It is for this reason that we invite all our members and Hivers community to create a story inspired by the gothic narrative, as a tribute to the author Ann Radcliffe.

Create a fictional story of 1000+ words (in your native language) on the theme of the activity. We invite you to read about the gothic novel and its authors for your entry to be valid.
Your participation in the activity must be published in our community and therefore you must be subscribed to created/hive-132410.

Promovidos por el amor a la literatura, estamos en la búsqueda constante de estrategias para brindarles un espacio a todos aquellos que se refugian en las letras, la lectura y todo este hermoso mundo.
Creando Narrativa Gótica
La narrativa gótica nació en la compleja época de la Inglaterra del siglo de las luces, inspirando cientos de obras y autores que se cuentan entre los anales de la historia. Entre algunas características del género se encuentran: que siempre está ambientada en algún tipo de arquitectura medieval (como por ejemplo un castillo, los lugares son fundamentales en este tipo de literatura) y el protagonista siempre está rodeado de deseos irracionales, excesos emocionales (depresión, angustia, paranoia), eventos sobrenaturales, monstruos, maldiciones y un erotismo matizado por el romance.

Ann Radcliffe en particular inspiró a muchos autores de su tiempo, especialmente a las mujeres. Considerada un baluarte y una verdadera precursora del género, nació un 9 de julio de 1764 en Londres, Inglaterra. Ganó notoriedad con novelas cómo Aventuras del bosque (1791) y El italiano (1797), aunque su obra más famosa sería Los misterios de Udolfo (1794).
Es por esta razón que invitamos a todos nuestros miembros y comunidad de Hivers, a crear una historia inspirada en la narrativa gótica, como tributo a la autora Ann Radcliffe.
