Before this drawing gets forgotten in my art folder, let me just share to you this **Jean Kirstein** art I drew almost a month ago for his birthday. I finished drawing it a two days after his birthday and it felt like the right time to post it was already over. We all know how Jean grew up so manly and it's such a nice sight to see his character improve. Thank you, Isayama! *(I assume you already know the show Attack on Titan, I no longer have to give an overview.)* Seeing the recent Jean Kirstein made me want to draw this:

Jean may be suited to be a squad leader and a dependable comrade now but we all know his personality before the timeskip. A brat who wants to appear cool and grown-up, but his fancy for maintaining a good appearance remained 'till his adulthood. *(Although I won't disregard the fact that there were also times when we've a potential in him to lead and defend his comrades.)* If you have watched the series of Attack on Titan OVA I'm sure you have figured out what my drawing is about but for those who haven't seen Jean's OVA, then I'll tell you some details of it.

Jean lived a wonderful childhood with a very caring mom who always cooks omurice *(omelette rice)* for his precious boy, **"Jean-boy"**. It was his mom's nickname for his son that she still even uses during Jean's teenage years because that's just how much she loves his son. Jean, who wanted to appear cool and grown-up, felt ashamed when her mother visited him with a bag full of foods along with his favorite childhood food, omurice, while he was on military duty. He felt ashamed being called Jean-boy by his mother in front of the other soldiers so he got angry, shouted and shoved his mom out of the room. I get what Jean feels. Wanting to become a responsible independent man yet there's his very loving mother who only wanted to take care of his son like she used to but she doesn't know it's making her teenage son uncomfortable. Would you do the same if you were in Jean's situation? Well, I'm not a man but it's more of a turn off to see a man shouting and pushing his mom away just because he feels embarrassed. It's not right to do that with your mom. Let your mom call you with your cute nickname and let her take care of you if it is what makes her happy. Treating your momma bad would never make you look cool and get the girls to like you.

Since Jean-boy has grown up after timeskip and had become mature on his way of thinking, I assume that he had already learned to accept his mother's overloving treatment so I drew him smiling and holding his omurice. No longer ashamed and just satisfying his taste buds with his favorite warm omurice cooked by his momma. In the Attack on Titan universe, not everyone still has their mother nor family with them. Our Jean-boy should feel very lucky to have his mom still there ready to pour him love and omurice.

For this drawing, I decided not to draw the line art and just go straight coloring to make it appear like a painting instead of the usual anime and cartoon style of art. I actually save time when I omit doing the line art although I think doing the line art makes my drawings look better. Hmmm.. Not sure if my drawing looks very close to Jean but I think it's alright.
