Hello to all my dear visual #Hive friends! The weather here is still a real hell. This year the rains have been torrential, constant and accompanied by very high temperatures which makes the humidity very high especially when it gets a little sunny and stops raining. So when this happens, you have to get out quickly to take advantage of the sunny interval and take some insect pictures.

¡Hola a todos mis queridos amigos visuales de #Hive! El clima aquí sigue siendo un verdadero infierno. Este año las lluvias han sido torrenciales, constantes y acompañadas de temperaturas muy altas lo que hace que la humedad se muy alta en especial cuando hace un poco de sol y para de llover. Así que cuando esto sucede, hay que salir rápidamente para aprovechar el intervalo soleado y hacer algunas fotografías de insectos.

I suppose that the climatic excesses have to do (as in the whole planet, as I see in the news) with Climate Change and its consequences. But the truth is that -at least here in the region where I live- this year we have had that combination of high temperatures with rain which makes this place seem as if we were in some corner of the Amazon jungle. This has led to a rapid and profuse recovery of vegetation after the dry season. In addition, insect populations have increased with respect to previous years.

Supongo que los excesos climáticos tienen que ver (como en todo el planeta, según veo en las noticias) con el Cambio Climático y sus consecuencias. Pero lo cierto es que -cuando menos aquí en la región donde vivo- este año hemos tenido esa combinación de altas temperaturas con lluvia la cual hace parecer este lugar como si estuviésemos en algún rincón de la selva Amazónica. Esto ha propiciado una rápida y profusa recuperación de la vegetación después de la temporada seca. Además las poblaciones de insectos se han incrementado con respecto a años anteriores.

Among the insects that have benefited the most from this climate are butterflies. Currently we have huge amounts of butterflies flying everywhere, this is something that had not happened in past years, so among all the bad things, this can be seen as something good... I guess.

Entre los insectos que se han visto más beneficiados con este clima están las mariposas. Actualmente tenemos cantidades ingentes de mariposas volando por doquier, esto es algo que no había sucedido en años pasados, así que dentro de todas las cosas malas, esto puede ser visto como algo bueno... Supongo.

It's a real shame that the sunny intervals available to take these photos are not plentiful these days. Also beware of the dehydration that can occur if one forgets to drink enough water while exposed to solar radiation and sweltering humidity. But it is well worth the sacrifice to go to the nearby rural roads and take some photos like these which I share with you today.

Es una verdadera lástima que los intervalos soleados disponibles para hacer estas fotos no abunden estos días. Además hay que tener cuidado con la deshidratación que puede ocurrir si uno se olvida de ingerir suficiente agua mientras se está expuesto a la radiación solar y la humedad sofocante. Pero bien vale la pena hacer el sacrificio de ir por los caminos rurales cercanos y hacer algunas fotos como estas las cuales hoy les comparto.

It is also possible to be bitten by an insect. Special care should be taken to avoid brushing against caterpillars, as many species are highly stinging, especially those whose bodies are covered with spiny appendages or fuzz. I usually wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, a cap and some kind of cloth around my neck. It is much better to be subjected to the heat than to suffer the toxin of a caterpillar or other species of stinging bugs.

También es factible recibir alguna picadura de un insecto. Hay que tener especial cuidado con rozar alguna oruga, pues muchas especies son altamente urticantes, en especial aquellas que tienen su cuerpo cubierto de apéndices espinosos o pelusas. Yo particularmente suelo ir protegido con pantalones largo, camisa manga larga, gorra y algún tipo de tela alrededor del cuello. Es mucho mejor someterse al calor que sufrir la toxina de una oruga u otra especie de bichos ponzoñosos.

For these photos I used a 100mm macro lens. It is a non-stabilized lens and obviously with subjects like insects you can't even dream of using a tripod or a flash. This is obviously due to how nervous they can be. So you have to arm yourself with patience, wait for good light, place insects in relatively suitable places to shoot and play long and hard with the camera and lens settings to try to get a decent photo.

Para estas fotos utilicé un objetivo macro de 100mm. Es un lente no estabilizado y evidentemente con sujetos como los insectos muchas veces ni siquiera se puede soñar con usar un trípode o un flash. Esto debido obviamente a lo nerviosos que pueden ser. Entonces hay que armarse de paciencia, esperar una buena luz, ubicar insectos en lugares relativamente adecuados para disparar y jugar largamente con los ajustes de la cámara y lente para intentar lograr una foto decente.

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.

NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografiar capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape 3.6.3.
