Today I want to share a medium-sized fly that is very common here in my place, and they will be easily attracted by the foul smell of organic matter or even fresh meat, especially seafood. and that is the reason, they will always come when you try to eat outside or grill anything outside.

This fly is one of the fly that most Balinese hate when we have the ceremony, there is a belief that this kind of fly can be controlled by people with special magic powers. When someone is having a religious ceremony in which we usually have so many grilled chicken and suckling pig as the offering, the presence of this fly can really mess up the ceremony, because after that all of the grilled chicken and the pig will be spoilt, also it will make the situation become really uncomfortable.

This fly most likely to be Chrysomya_megacephala more commonly known as the oriental latrine fly or oriental blue fly. The metallic blue or green color of its body will send shivers down your spine. and this close-up shot, will certainly exaggerate that. : )

The fly will infest the corpse after death, they will hop on the dead animal, or meat or other food left open outside, and most likely they will put their egg as well. So you got to be really careful when you see one of them near your food.
