Aquietar la mente. Mindfulness

Hemos terminado.

Quieting the mind. Mindfulness

Stillness and restlessness are born in our thoughts. They are the creators of our emotions and feelings. We often talk about having positive thoughts with the explicit purpose of having a better attitude towards life, to connect with what we want and attract what we desire. Cultivating positive thinking is ultimately one of the best decisions we can make to achieve our goals.

Now, no matter what kind of thinking we have: positive or negative, thinking is mental work. It requires our energies and being creators of emotions we are filled with expectations and concerns that often lead us to exhaustion. Not only physical and mental exhaustion but also our spirit is filled with restlessness and constant search. Therefore, if we wish to have tranquility, peace and inner calm, it is necessary to calm our mind and body.

How to calm our thoughts?

Nowadays we know many disciplines that provide us with very valid techniques to calm our thoughts, most of them have their origin in the millenary oriental cultures such as Yoga, Chi Kung (Qi Gong) and mindfulness, among others. Mindfulness comes to us under the name of mindfulness.

Mindfulness, as its name suggests, is to stop in time, in this wonderful moment of here and now and put all your attention there, perceiving with your five senses without judging, analyzing, reasoning or questioning what you feel at that moment. Just breathe and feel.

With the practice of mindfulness we achieve that our thoughts become quiet, that they are focused on a specific moment and object, it is an intentional practice that leads us to the integral stillness, where body, mind and spirit find rest, because to quiet the body and mind is to give us wellness. Therefore I invite you to stop for a moment today and perform the following mindfulness exercise.

Mindfulness practice

Mindfulness has the great advantage that you can do it at any time and you could say that under any circumstances, however, while we advance in the technique it is convenient that we provide the best possible conditions, that is: choose the most appropriate time and place where we have no interruptions, the place where we are going to sit, have comfortable clothes and look for our object of attention. For today's exercise we will prepare a rich and aromatic infusion. With everything ready, I recommend that you read the complete exercise and we begin.

Hot tea practice

1.- As every practice we do with the intention of relaxing and feeling wellness begins with conscious breathing, Here is an exercise. Breathe consciously until you feel your body relax: release the tensions in your face, neck, shoulders, spine, breathe softly, very softly and loosely.

2.- Take the cup of tea that you have left aside while you were doing the breaths. Hug the cup with both hands, feel its warmth. Let that warmth fill your body, with your mind take it to your face, move it to your head, feel it, breathe and relax; take it to the back of your neck and down your spine, feel how the warmth expands relaxing all your parts; now bring that warmth to your heart, enjoy its warmth: breathe, feel and release. Let the heat follow its path along your body as you breathe and feel.

3.- When you return to your hands, bring the cup to your nose, inhale the aroma of the infusion, stop in that aroma, feel it, enjoy it.

4.- Bring the cup to your cheeks; feel the texture of the cup, its temperature, breathe and feel.

5.- Separate the cup from your face and place it where you can see its contents, open your eyes and fix your attention on the infusion, its color, transparency, texture, movement. Breathe, observe, feel, release.

6.- Close your eyes and bring the cup to your lips. Take a small sip and savor, fix your attention on the different flavors, as particular. Take another sip and enjoy the totality of its flavors, the whole. Breathe, feel.

7.- Take the rest of the infusion, calmly, breathing, feeling and enjoying this moment of inner well-being. When you finish, take a deep breath and there, where you are sitting, straighten your body, extend your arms up and with your arms outstretched trace an arc until your hands are in the center, thank and open your eyes. We have finished.
