Una cálido saludo a toda la comunidad de Holos&Lotus, bienvenidos al mes del orgullo, como muchos me he sentido un poco perdida en lo que significa y representan las múltiples banderas que se desfilan en ese día, por eso como enriquecimiento quise crear una guía rápida para conocer y entender lo que significan y representas esta banderas para la comunidad LGBTIQA+, cuyas siglas significan Lesbiana, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersexual, Queer, Asexual-Agenero-Arromantico y + Diversidades y Orientaciones.
A warm greeting to all the Holos&Lotus community, welcome to the pride month, like many I have felt a little lost in what it means and represent the multiple flags that are paraded on that day, so as enrichment I wanted to create a quick guide to know and understand what they mean and represent these flags for the LGBTIQA+ community, whose acronym stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer, Asexual-Agender-Arromantic and + Diversities and Orientations.
Todos hemos visto alguna vez la icónica bandera arcoíris conocida como Orgullo Progresivo o en inglés Progress Pride usada en el Día del Orgullo; la bandera nace en los 70’ durante un movimiento de protesta gay y es creado por el artista Gilbert Baker, la original se encuentra conformada por ocho franjas de colores diferentes, siendo la primera bandera creada para representar al movimiento gay.
We have all seen the iconic rainbow flag known as Progressive Pride used on Pride Day; the flag was born in the 70's during a gay protest movement and created by artist Gilbert Baker, the original flag is made up of eight different colored stripes, being the first flag created to represent the gay movement.
El Rosa, representa el Sexo.
El Rojo, representa la Vida.
El Naranja, representa la Salud, un buen estado físico y mental.
El Amarillo, representa la Luz del Sol.
El Verde, representa Naturaleza.
El Turquesa, representa la Magia y el Arte.
El Azul, representa la Serenidad, la unión, la concordia y tranquilidad.
El Morado, representa el Alma y el Espíritu.
Pink represents Sex.
Red represents Life.
Orange represents Health, a good physical and mental state.
Yellow represents Sunlight.
Green represents Nature.
Turquoise, represents Magic and Art.
Blue represents serenity, union, harmony and tranquility.
Purple represents the Soul and the Spirit.
Pocos años más tarde, tras la pérdida de Harvey Milk político/activista líder de la comunidad gay, se populariza la bandera con solo seis franjas siendo la más vista en el desfile del orgullo con solo los colores rojo, naranja, amarillo, verde, azul y morado, y la más conocida hoy en día.
A few years later, after the loss of Harvey Milk, a leading gay community politician/activist, the flag with only six stripes was popularized, being the most seen in the Pride parade with only the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple, and the best known today.
Dado a las recientes corrientes inclusivas, la comunidad LGBTIQA+ sentía que debía haber una actualización en el icónico símbolo, por lo que en 2018 sufre un cambio echo por Daniel Quasar, el cual consiste en un triángulo con los colores blanco, rosado, turquesa, marrón y negro, para representar al resto de la comunidad que se sentía desplazada al ser esta la bandera conocida como la “bandera gay”. Posteriormente en el año 2021 Valentino Vecchietti activista y promotor de los derechos LGBTIQA+ siguiendo el patrón de Daniel Quasar, decide implementar una modificación extra agregando el color amarillo y el círculo morado llamándola así, la bandera inclusiva.
Given the recent inclusive currents, the LGBTIQA+ community felt that there should be an update in the iconic symbol, so in 2018 it undergoes a change made by Daniel Quasar, which consists of a triangle with the colors white, pink, turquoise, brown and black, to represent the rest of the community that felt displaced by this being the flag known as the "gay flag". Later in the year 2021 Valentino Vecchietti activist and promoter of LGBTIQA+ rights following the pattern of Daniel Quasar, decides to implement an extra modification adding the yellow color and the purple circle calling it the inclusive flag.
¿Pero qué significan estos colores y estas modificaciones a la bandera? Bueno para responder a esa pregunta déjenme presentarles el resto de ellas, comenzando con las banderas de las orientaciones sexuales más conocida y siguiendo las siglas LGBTIQA+.
But what do these colors and these modifications to the flag mean? Well to answer that question let me introduce you to the rest of them, starting with the flags of the most well-known sexual orientations and following the acronym LGBTIQA+.
La Bandera Lésbica, nace en la época de los 90’ simbolizando el movimiento lésbico y es creada por Sean Campbell, siendo esta de color morado con un triángulo negro emblema de solidaridad y un hacha, dando a entender que son regidas por una sociedad matriarcal. Fue solo en 2018 que una usaría de Tumblr, Emily Gwen, propone una bandera más inclusiva que representara a todas las lesbianas por igual, compuesta por siete franjas con tonalidades degradas de naranja y morados, más una franja blanca dividiéndolo, los cuales significan la no conformidad de género, independencia, comunidad, relaciones únicas entre mujeres, serenidad y paz, amor/sexo, y la feminidad.
The Lesbian Flag, born in the 90's symbolizing the lesbian movement and created by Sean Campbell, is purple with a black triangle emblem of solidarity and an axe, implying that they are governed by a matriarchal society. It was only in 2018 that a Tumblr user, Emily Gwen, proposed a more inclusive flag that would represent all lesbians equally, composed of seven stripes with degrading shades of orange and purple, plus a white stripe dividing it, which signify gender nonconformity, independence, community, unique relationships between women, serenity and peace, love/sex, and femininity.
La Bandera Bisexual, nace en 1998, diseñada por Michael Page consta de tres franjas, la Rosa representa la atracción por el mismo sexo, el Azul representa la atracción por el sexo opuesto, y el Morado es una combinación de ambos, significando la atracción por ambos sexos.
The Bisexual Flag, born in 1998, designed by Michael Page consists of three stripes, Pink represents same-sex attraction, Blue represents opposite-sex attraction, and Purple is a combination of both, signifying attraction to both sexes.
La Bandera Trans, nace en 1999, diseñada por una mujer trans llamada Monica Helm; símbolo de aquellos individuos que hacen la transición de género; es conformada por cinco franjas, dos Azules reasentando a los hombres, dos Rosadas representando a las mujeres y su franja Blanca representa la transición, y/o a aquellos que consideran que tienen un género neutro o indefinido.
The Trans Flag, born in 1999, designed by a trans woman named Monica Helm; symbol of those individuals who make the gender transition, is made up of five stripes, two blue representing men, two pink representing women and its white stripe represents the transition, and/or those who consider that they have a neutral or undefined gender.
La Bandera Intersexual, nace en 2013, diseñado por Morgan Carpenter; las personas intersexuales son aquellas que no encajan con las características sexuales de una mujer u hombre; sus colores amarillo y morado representan el hermafroditismo, mientas que el círculo simboliza la totalidad, conjunto con su derecho de decidir quiénes son y quienes quieren ser.
The Intersex Flag, born in 2013, designed by Morgan Carpenter; intersex people are those who do not fit the sexual characteristics of a woman or man; its yellow and purple colors represent hermaphroditism, while the circle symbolizes wholeness, together with their right to decide who they are and who they want to be.
La Bandera Asexual, nace en el 2010, diseñado por la Red de Educación y Visibilidad Asexual; las personas asexuales tienen baja o nula atracción sexual a otros; el negro representa la asexualidad, el gris representa a la persona sea sexual o asexual, blanco representa la sexualidad y morado representa un simbolismo de comunidad.
The Asexual Flag, born in 2010, designed by the Asexual Visibility and Education Network; asexual people have low or no sexual attraction to others; black represents asexuality, gray represents the person whether sexual or asexual, white represents sexuality and purple represents a symbolism of community.
La Bandera Pansexual, nace en el 2010, diseñado por Jasper. V; los pansexuales se caracterizan por la atracción sexual o romántica hacia un individuo independientemente su género; el Rosa representa a la mujer, el Azul representa al hombre y el Amarillo representa a las personas que no se definen bajo un género.
The Pansexual Flag, born in 2010, designed by Jasper. V; pansexuals are characterized by sexual or romantic attraction to an individual regardless of gender; Pink represents women, Blue represents men and Yellow represents people who do not define themselves under a gender.
La Bandera Demisexual, se desconoce su creador, surge por primera vez en el 2013; las personas demisexuales necesitan estable una conexión emocional antes de sentir una atracción sexual; esta bandera asemeja la bandera de la asuxualidad, con la diferencia del triángulo que representa un espectro de las asexualidad.
The Demisexual Flag, its creator is unknown, first emerged in 2013; demisexual people need to establish an emotional connection before feeling a sexual attraction; this flag resembles the flag of asexuality, with the difference of the triangle that represents a spectrum of asexuality.
La Bandera No Binarie, nace en el 2014, diseñador por Kye Rowan, posee cuatro franjas, el Amarillo representa al individuo cuyo genero se encuentras fuera de lo binario, Blanco representan a los individuos que tienen muchos o todos los géneros, Morado representan al individuo que posee características de ambos géneros, y Negro representan a esas personas que no se sienten parte de ningún género.
The No Binarie Flag, born in 2014, designed by Kye Rowan, has four stripes, Yellow represents the individual whose gender is outside the binary, White represents individuals who have many or all genders, Purple represents the individual who possesses characteristics of both genders, and Black represents those people who do not feel part of any gender.
La Bandera Arromantico, nace en el 2011, su primer diseño es creador por el sitio web National Coalition for Aromantic Visibility; siendo esta bandera el símbolo de las personas que no generan un vínculo romántico sin importar el género; se compone de cuatro franjas, el Verde representa al individuo que no siente una atracción romántica, el Amarillo representa el vínculo de amistad, la Naranja representa quienes sienten una atracción romántica sin ser correspondidos, y el Negro representa una crítica al amor. Posteriormente el 2014 un usuario de Tumblr publicaría la bandera que representa hoy en día a la comunidad arromantico, siendo el verde el color predominante en ella al ser el antagonista del color rojo que es el representante del amor.
The Arromantic Flag, was born in 2011, its first design was created by the website National Coalition for Aromantic Visibility; being this flag the symbol of people who do not generate a romantic bond regardless of gender; it consists of four stripes, Green represents the individual who does not feel a romantic attraction, Yellow represents the bond of friendship, Orange represents those who feel a romantic attraction without being reciprocated, and Black represents a criticism of love. Later in 2014 a Tumblr user would publish the flag that represents today the arromantic community, being green the predominant color in it as it is the antagonist of the color red which is the representative of love.
