Celebrating Father's Day today, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to participate in my friend @mosa71's initiative and tell you a little about my dad's life and what I remember from when I was a teenager living at my parents' house. The first thing is that he was a father who was always present at home as this year marks 44 years of marriage to my mom.
My father, like many men of his age, had to start working when he was very young and could not finish his high school studies, he studied elementary school in an agricultural school that existed at that time throughout the country, that was around the 60s. As an adult he wanted to finish high school but the obligations of home and work prevented him, the fact of not having studied, has never prevented him from doing everything he wanted and has raised countless projects that is why I have always said that my dad has done many things.
Celebrando hoy el día del padre, no quise dejar pasar la oportunidad de participar en la iniciativa de mi amiga @mosa71 y contarles un poco sobre la vida de mi papá y lo que recuerdo de cuando era adolescente y vivía en casa de mis padres. Lo primero es que fue un padre que siempre estuvo presente en casa ya que este año se cumplen 44 años de matrimonio con mi mamá.
Mi padre, como muchos hombres de su edad, tuvo que empezar a trabajar cuando era muy joven y no pudo terminar sus estudios de bachillerato, estudió la primaria en una escuela agrícola que existía en esa época en todo el país, eso fue por los años 60. De adulto quiso terminar el bachillerato pero las obligaciones del hogar y del trabajo se lo impidieron, el hecho de no haber estudiado, nunca le ha impedido hacer todo lo que ha querido y ha levantado infinidad de proyectos por eso siempre he dicho que mi papá ha hecho muchas cosas.
When he was young, around 20 years old, he wanted to be a boxer, he trained in a gym specialized in that area and the day of his first fight, I don't know if he was knocked out, but yes, he was beaten a lot and at that moment he knew that boxing was not for him. After his experience as a boxer he had an interview in the television channel Radio Caracas Television for a singing contest, there he met Mrs. Rosario Prieto who was a great actress of the country. These are some of his anecdotes that he always told us when we were little.
He never stopped singing, he is one of those people who would go into the bathroom to take a bath and you could hear him singing all over the house. That's something I grew up with and I won't forget. His favorite singer is Leo Dan, a Mexican singer who became very famous in the 70's, his songs are the ones he has always sung, in the house there were acetate records of those that bring the lyrics of the songs written on the cover, so I also learned all those songs and I still sing them every time I listen to them or when there is a karaoke 🎤. It's worth mentioning that I didn't inherit my dad's singing talent, but I still do it 😝.
Cuando era joven, alrededor de los 20 años, quería ser boxeador, entrenaba en un gimnasio especializado en esa área y el día de su primera pelea, no sé si lo noquearon, pero sí, lo golpearon mucho y en ese momento supo que el boxeo no era para él. Después de su experiencia como boxeador tuvo una entrevista en el canal de televisión Radio Caracas Televisión para un concurso de canto, allí conoció a la señora Rosario Prieto quien fue una gran actriz del país. Estas son algunas de sus anécdotas que siempre nos contaba cuando éramos pequeños.
Nunca dejó de cantar, es de esas personas que entraba al baño a bañarse y se le escuchaba cantar por toda la casa. Eso es algo con lo que crecí y que no olvidaré. Su cantante favorito es Leo Dan, un cantante mexicano que se hizo muy famoso en los 70's, sus canciones son las que siempre ha cantado, en la casa había discos de acetato de esos que traen las letras de las canciones escritas en la portada, así que yo también me aprendí todas esas canciones y aún las canto cada vez que las escucho o cuando hay un karaoke 🎤. Cabe destacar que no heredé el talento para cantar de mi papá, pero igual lo hago 😝.
I remember that my dad was strict with our upbringing, he didn't like to come home and find us at the neighbors' house, that was fatal for him. At that time he had a Chevrolet 350 truck older than us (my sister and I), he used to make fun of us telling us that he loved it more, because he spent more time with the truck than with us. The thing is that we would hear the noise of the truck about three blocks from the house and then we would run out 🏃🏻♀️y he would find us inside the house and everything would be fine. He didn't like to give us permission to go out either, from what I remember he would always say NO. The one in charge of permissions was my mom, when she said: go and don't be late, everything was fine. But if my mom said: I don't know, ask your dad, we immediately knew the answer was NO. Eventually we learned that and stopped asking her because we knew the answer. Later, as an adult, a friend told me that my mom was the boss at home, but I think she knew what my dad wouldn't like and avoided getting in and getting us in trouble with him.
Recuerdo que mi papá era estricto con nuestra crianza, no le gustaba llegar a casa y encontrarnos en casa de los vecinos, eso era fatal para él. En esa época tenía una camioneta Chevrolet 350 más vieja que nosotras (mi hermana y yo), se burlaba de nosotras diciéndonos que la quería más, porque pasaba más tiempo con la camioneta que con nosotras. La cosa es que escuchábamos el ruido de la camioneta a unas tres cuadras de la casa y entonces salíamos corriendo 🏃🏻♀️y él nos encontraba dentro de la casa y todo iba bien. Tampoco le gustaba darnos permiso para salir, por lo que recuerdo siempre decía NO. La encargada de los permisos era mi mamá, cuando ella decía: vayan y no lleguen tarde, todo estaba bien. Pero si mi mamá decía: No sé, pregúntale a tu papá, inmediatamente sabíamos que la respuesta era NO. Con el tiempo lo aprendimos y dejamos de preguntarle porque sabíamos la respuesta. Más tarde, de adulta, una amiga me dijo que mi mamá era la jefa en casa, pero creo que sabía lo que no le gustaría a mi papá y evitaba meterse y meternos en problemas con él.
As I said at the beginning my dad has worked in many things and from a very young age, from the things I know, he was a truck driver, fisherman, block maker (person who makes building blocks), then he became interested in social welfare and joined the political life, after politics in Venezuela was limited to a single political party (government party) he dabbled in farming, raising chickens and cattle for a while, then in the dairy company in the company of a friend making fresh white cheese and finally in an automotive business. He has been a man who has always found what to do and has never let himself down.
Currently my dad is going through an illness that just as the falls and failed projects could not bring him down, this illness has not been able to either. He is a warrior who has fought to live and with God's favor he will make it for many years to come. Now he doesn't go out to work much because he gets tired, but he doesn't need to go out because he always finds something to do inside the house. Because I haven't told you that my dad is an inventor, since the pandemic when he was locked up at home, he became an engineer and inventor. He builds everything he thinks he needs in the business to make the work go more smoothly. When they send me pictures of him working, it makes me happy because he is doing what he likes and that means he feels good.
Como dije al principio mi papá ha trabajado en muchas cosas y desde muy joven, por lo que sé, fue camionero, pescador, bloquero (persona que hace bloques de construcción), luego se interesó por el bienestar social y se incorporó a la vida política, después que la política en Venezuela se limitó a un solo partido político (partido de gobierno) incursionó en la agricultura, criando pollos y ganado por un tiempo, luego en la empresa de lácteos en compañía de un amigo haciendo queso blanco fresco y finalmente en un negocio automotriz. Ha sido un hombre que siempre ha encontrado lo que hacer y nunca se ha defraudado a sí mismo.
Actualmente mi papá está pasando por una enfermedad que así como las caídas y los proyectos fallidos no pudieron derribarlo, esta enfermedad tampoco ha podido. Es un guerrero que ha luchado por vivir y con el favor de Dios lo logrará por muchos años más. Ahora no sale mucho a trabajar porque se cansa, pero no necesita salir porque siempre encuentra algo que hacer dentro de casa. Porque no te he dicho que mi papá es inventor, desde la pandemia cuando estaba encerrado en casa, se convirtió en ingeniero e inventor. Construye todo lo que cree que necesita en el negocio para que el trabajo vaya mejor. Cuando me mandan fotos de él trabajando, me hace feliz porque está haciendo lo que le gusta y eso significa que se siente bien.
