It is a common belief among many people that someone who has a tattoo is a person of dubious reputation, or worse, a criminal. But this is not necessarily true.
The history of the tattoo has a lot to be cut, and although it was used for negative situations, we must rescue that also (like everything) has its positive side, which is not little, compared to what we have been made to see in Western society.
This idea goes back to the time of the Egyptian and Greek civilizations, when Henna pigments were already used to make drawings on the skin, according to the intention of preventing diseases.
The aborigines still use natural pigments to decorate their face and parts of their body temporarily, as part of rituals, and not everyone can do it or have a particular design, as this depends on the hierarchy they have within their community.
It was its use in China, many years ago, which gave it a negative connotation, when criminals were marked, as a reminder of their punishment, even if they had already served their sentences, because they were considered as people of another level in society.
Nowadays, there are two sides, the detractors and those who perceive it as an art, and it is very common to see people wearing tattoos of their loved ones, favorite characters, or reminders (as in my case) written at the sight of anyone.
In Argentina, where I currently live, the vast majority of people have at least one tattoo, and you can see how even women and older men wear them during the summer season, when you have to dress with little clothing, so painting the skin is not something of the current fashion.
And as a well-known tattoo lover told me, light skin is a very tempting canvas for permanent painting artists, so all that's missing is a design and the desire to get it done.
In my personal experience, a few years ago, I used to say that I would never get a tattoo, because in my mind, only cattle were permanently marked. And I would say, always in a joking tone, to my tattooed students, that they were like branded cows!
The reason for my bad jokes, went hand in hand with the little knowledge about the origin of their branded designs, because when asked why they did it, most of them did not remember the reason they had for getting tattooed, and that made such a decision less important!
A permanent mark, especially if it is visible to anyone, in my opinion must be something that has a meaning, otherwise it would only be a product of vanity and something very empty that you can later regret, as in the case of the man who tattooed "Messi" on his face after the final of the 2022 World Cup, and now regrets such action.
So we have to start demystifying the negative idea that people have about tattoos, even if you do not have in mind to get one, since a mark does not make you a criminal at all.
I decided 6 months ago to get a tattooed bracelet on my left arm. It is composed of two butterflies and a flower, representing me and my two children. On the back of the arm I placed the phrase "life is today" because sometimes I tend to think about things too much and I felt that I was wasting time before taking action, with this I remind myself that you have to take advantage of the moments and opportunities, because they may not come back again.

Los abor铆genes, todav铆a suelen usar pigmentos naturales para adornar su rostro y partes de su cuerpo de manera temporal, como parte de rituales, y no cualquiera puede hacerlo o tener un dise帽o particular, pues eso depende de la jerarqu铆a que tengan dentro de su comunidad.
Fue su uso en China, muchos a帽os atr谩s, lo que le dio una connotaci贸n negativa, cuando marcaban a los criminales, como manera de recordatorio de su pena, aunque ya hubiesen cumplido con sus condenas, pues eran considerados como personas de otro nivel en la sociedad.
En la actualidad, est谩n los dos bandos, los detractores y aquellos que lo perciben como un arte, y es muy com煤n ver a las personas llevar tatuajes de sus seres queridos, personajes favoritos, o recordatorios (como es mi caso) escritos a la vista de cualquiera.
En Argentina, donde vivo actualmente, la gran mayor铆a de las personas posee por lo menos un tatuaje, y se ve como inclusive mujeres y hombres de avanzada edad los lucen durante la 茅poca de verano, en la que hay que vestirse con poca indumentaria, por lo que pintarse la piel no es algo de la moda actual.
Y tal como me comentaba una conocida amante de los tatuajes, la piel clara resulta un lienzo muy tentador para los artistas de la pintura permanente, por lo que solo faltar铆a un dise帽o y las ganas de hac茅rselo.
En mi experiencia personal, hace unos a帽os atr谩s, afirmaba que jam谩s me har铆a un tatuaje, puesto que en mi pensamiento, solo el ganado se marcaba de manera permanente. Y le dec铆a, siempre en tono jocoso, a mis estudiantes tatuados, que eran como vacas marcadas!
La raz贸n de mis bromas pesadas, iban de la mano del poco conocimiento sobre el origen de sus dise帽os marcados, pues al preguntarle el por qu茅 lo hicieron, la mayor铆a no recordaba la raz贸n que tuvieron para tatuarse, y eso le restaba importancia a semejante decisi贸n!
Una marca permanente, sobre todo si est谩 a la vista de cualquiera, a mi parecer debe ser algo que tenga un significado, de lo contrario ser铆a solo producto de la vanidad y algo muy vac铆o de lo que luego te puedas arrepentir, como el caso del hombre que se tatu贸 "Messi" en la cara luego de la final del mundial de f煤tbol de 2022, y ahora se arrepiente de tal acci贸n.
As铆 que hay que empezar a desmitificar la idea negativa que se tiene de los tatuajes, aunque no se tenga en mente hacerse uno, ya que una marca no te hace un delincuente en lo absoluto.
Yo decid铆 hace 6 meses hacerme una pulsera tatuada en mi brazo izquierdo. Est谩 compuesta por dos mariposas y una flor, que me representan a mi junto a mis dos hijos. En el reverso del brazo coloqu茅 la frase "la vida es hoy" porque a veces suelo pensar las cosas demasiado y sent铆a que perd铆a el tiempo antes de tomar acci贸n, con esto me recuerdo que hay que aprovechar los momentos y las oportunidades, porque puede que no regresen otra vez.
