Playing splinterlands for the first time

Yesterday, I decided it was time to get myself into splinterlands. I was tired of reading hive posts where lots of words flew over my head and wanted to understand what words like mana, monsters and summoners finally meant. I even saw someone talk about buying lands and I wondered how that was possible. So I decided to trust that I would understand if I did a little research and showed some interest.

I think it's paid off as I've now finally been able to watch a few tutorials on how to get started. I bought my summoners spell book this morning and was about to get some Dec with one hive just to have a feel of what this process feels like. I also practiced and even played a few games as you can see in my screenshot below

I was hoping to get to a new level but for some reason I couldn't match up with any player anymore and so I stopped trying and decided to write this post instead.

Splinterlands is actually interesting. I felt that it wasn't going to be because the idea of cards competing against cards did not seem that interesting to me. But the more I read about cards and their stats, the more I realized the great variety from the various mutations or card combinations for each game you decide to play. I can even understand now how this could be addicting to play.

Also, there's such a huge support for this game and a huge community, so it feels like such a worthy hobby to add to my ever growing stack of hobbies. I'm glad that there's something new to do when other hobbies feel more tasking than usual.

There's so much to learn about this game. I'm still sort of stumbling my way in and taking it slow by learning more about my cards and I can see how nice it is to have the option to rent cards. I'm still confused about vouchers and card packs and air drops and all of that but I know that I will take the time to study them some more. For now I just want to play for a while and move out of that novice spot. I know the rest will come easy because I can at least open a splinterlands blog post and know what they're actually talking about. It's becoming less cryptic and that's a good thing.

I'm hoping to keep playing and see how far this takes me. The hive blockchain is truly great. I wish I'd taken these things more seriously but never too late to start anyway.

Cheers!
