A few days ago, while taking a leisurely walk in the small forest near my house, I found something interesting under a pile of damp leaves. Among the decaying wood chips, there was a small, pure white mushroom, standing out in stark contrast to the dark, damp surroundings. After taking a closer look and examining it carefully, I suspected that this mushroom was Gerronema atrialbum, one of the species I rarely encounter in this forest.

This mushroom has a smooth, round cap with an elegant creamy white color, and the underside displays soft, regular gills. Its stem is slender, but quite strong, indicating its adaptation to the constantly wet forest environment. Despite its small size, its presence really adds to the charm of the mushroom diversity that can be found in the local forest.

I photographed this mushroom from several angles, trying to capture the details and uniqueness of its texture. In addition, I also used additional lighting because of the rather dark conditions of the forest, especially under the canopy where this mushroom grows.

Discoveries like this always remind me of how rich and diverse life is in nature, even in places we might take for granted. Small fungi like Gerronema atrialbum may be easily overlooked by some, but for us nature watchers, they are hidden treasures waiting to be discovered and appreciated.
