Radical Change to my Desktop, I love it ❤️❤️
Today I decided to make a radical change to my desktop, because this desktop has been with me for 20 years. and it is the one I use to Create Content for Hive Blog, but buying a new one is not currently in my priorities, and making a change to it as it should be done also requires a little more budget, because I have always wanted to completely change the piece of wood or mdf that you have, but that also requires you to go to the carpenter, the transfer and it is more expensive. So the alternative I tentatively thought of was lining the Formica piece with Contact Paper.
But first I want to show you how ugly my Desktop was:
Hoy me decidí a hacerle un cambio radical a mi Escritorio, y es que este escritorio tiene 20 años conmigo. y es el que utilizo para Crear Contenido para Hive Blog, pero comprar uno nuevo no está actualmente en mis prioridades, y hacerle un cambio como debe hacerse también demanda un poco de más presupuesto, porque siempre he querido cambiar por completo la pieza de madera o mdf que tiene, pero eso además requiere que vaya al carpintero, el traslado y es más costoso. Así que la alternativa que provisionalmente pensé fue en forrar la pieza de fórmica con Papel Contact.
Pero primero quiero mostrarte lo feo que estaba mi Escritorio:

Así lucía mi escritorio, dado que es muy viejo tenía la parte del teclado en otro nivel, así se usaban antes, ahora no vienen muchos así porque realmente no es tan cómodo que se diga, ya nos hemos acostumbrado a tener todo sobre la mesa simplemente. Pero bueno, este es el diseño que tiene, si más adelante eventualmente lo remodelo con un carpintero como debe ser, le pediré que elimine este doble nivel. Por ahora esto es lo que hay, como decían las abuelitas...
If something that I like about this desk is its height since it is very comfortable to create things with my sewing machine. In addition, it is somewhat long, which allows me to have or carry out two activities at the same time, with the equipment I need for it. Another good thing is that its structure is very, very strong and the movement or vibration of the sewing machine does not move it at all... Point in favor...! but it is so ugly that I always had it with a curtain fabric that I bought for it, in fact in my tutorials you always see this background fabric.
Si algo que me gusta de este escritorio es su altura ya que es muy cómodo para ponerme a crear cosas con mi máquina de coser. Además es algo largo lo que me permite tener o realizar dos actividades a la vez, con los equipos que necesito para ello. Otra cosa buena es que su estructura es muy, muy fuerte y el movimiento o vibración de la máquina de coser no lo mueve para nada... Punto a favor..! pero está tan feo que siempre lo tenía con una tela de cortina que compré para el, de hecho en mis tutoriales siempre se ve esta tela de fondo.
I only bought two sheets of contact paper that each measure 1 meter, and its design is light wood. It's just what I wanted, as it adds interest to the desktop, but at the same time is neutral so that my tutorials can be viewed without distraction from the background.
Additionally, I only needed my cutter, a metal ruler and a piece of cloth to flatten the material.
Solo compré dos pliegos de papel contact que mide cada uno 1 metro, y su diseño es de madera clara. Es justo lo que quería, ya que aporta interés al escritorio, pero al mismo tiempo es neutro para que se puedan ver mis tutoriales sin distracción del fondo.
Adicionalmente, solo necesité mi cuter, una regla de metal y un trozo de tela para aplanar el material.
With the desk clean, I proceeded to cover it with contact paper just like we used to cover notebooks at school. I started with the right edge, I opened the sheet of contact paper and with the piece of cloth I flattened or ironed it well against the desk, being careful not to leave bubbles.
Con el escritorio limpio, procedí a forrar con el papel contact tal cual como forrábamos los cuadernos en el colegio. Empecé por el borde derecho, fui abriendo el pliego de papel contact y con el trozo de tela fui aplanando o planchando bien contra el escritorio, teniendo el cuidado de no dejar burbujas.
I cut strips to complete the top since it did not give the width of the paper. Fortunately, the design of the lines of the wood are mixed and the joints are not so noticeable.
Corté tiras para completar la parte superior ya que no dio el ancho del papel. Afortunadamente el diseño de las líneas de la madera se mezclan y no se notan tanto las uniones.
On the edges I helped myself with the metal ruler and the cutter, to cut well close to the edge of the desk. It is necessary that the rule is made of metal so that it is not cut with the cutter. Then I just peel off the excess that I cut off.
En los bordes me ayudé de la regla de metal y el cuter, para cortar bien cerca del borde del escritorio. Es necesario que la regla sea de metal para que no se corte con el cuter. Luego, simplemente desprendo el excedente que corté.
If there are any bubbles left, I do the same as when I cover notebooks with contact paper, which is to cut a little with the cutter, or even with a needle, to get the air out when I rub with the piece of cloth.
Si queda alguna burbuja, hago lo mismo que cuando forro cuadernos o libretas con papel contact, que es cortar un poco con el cuter, o incluso con una aguja, para sacar bien el aire cuando froto con el trozo de tela.
The piece that has another level and that is intended for the keyboard, has supports for which I cut as close to its shape and then covered.
La pieza que tiene otro nivel y que está destinada al teclado, tiene soportes para los que recorté lo más parecido a su forma y luego forré.
The round screws that the desk has, I trimmed around and they didn't really turn out pretty, but I did my best.
Los tornillos redondo que tiene el escritorio, los recorté alrededor y realmente no quedaron lindos, pero hice lo mejor que pude.
Here we can already appreciate the finish I got, I feel that it is a radical change. The contact paper stuck perfectly, and that was one of the doubts I had, but I was lucky that both materials were accepted perfectly.
Aquí ya podemos apreciar el acabado que obtuve, siento que es un cambio radical . El papel contact pegó perfecto, y ese era una de las dudas que tenía, pero tuve suerte de que ambos materiales se aceptaron perfecto.
Note that the area on the right is quite generous, I put my sewing machine and some accessories there and it is quite functional, I can work perfectly in it.
Fíjense que el área de la derecha es bastante generoso el espacio, ahí coloco mi máquina de coser y algunos accesorios y es bastante funcional, puedo trabajar perfecto en él.
The pc mouse runs well on contact paper, but I still have to make a set of accessories for the pc, that's pending.
El mouse de la pc corre bien en el papel contact, pero igual me debo hacer un juego de accesorios para la pc, eso está pendiente.
This little plant needs to be ground, I will do it in a future publication. My notepads have good space. Really the double level is not so bad after all.
Esta plantita necesita ya ser pasada a tierra, lo haré en una próxima publicación. Mis libretas de notas tienen un buen espacio. Realmente el doble nivel no es tan malo después de todo.
I hope you liked this DIY, it is somewhat temporary, the ideal is to remodel the desk with a carpentry professional, but you have to prioritize priorities, and for now this improvement makes me very happy.
