Self-Assembling Lanterns for Mid Autumn Festival

The exact day for Mid-autumn festival is on this coming Tuesday. It falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. It is a time when we gather to eat mooncakes together and play lanterns together.

I was assembling the first lantern with my eldest son last week and I also did up the second lantern in the design of a rabbit. Though they did require some effort and time, I really love these lanterns and happy to see my children liking them too.

They look a bit different from the traditional type but I am glad to find these DIY kits that has no extra music hahahah. They come with LED lights which I think is easier for young children to manouvre as the traditional ones are lit up by candles. However, I do miss the traditional type too.

My cousins sent me photos of them playing lanterns in their yard in my hometown last night. Parents and aunts also sent me photos of the mooncakes we ordered for them to thank us. I guess that is the best we can do to celebrate it in the pandemic time.

I appreciate the richness of the Chinese culture and its heritage. I am very awed by them. Mid-autumn festival was a happening festival back in my hometown with my family. I do miss big gatherings with friends and family to celebrate this occasion. Happy Mid Autumn Festival to all who are celebrating!
