La tinaja, es una vasija grande hecha con barro cocido, usada principalmente para guardar agua, podría decirse que es una especie de nevera; ya que mantiene el agua fría, durante los siglos XVIII y XIX su uso estuvo muy extendido en el Territorio Nacional. Actualmente forma parte de los utensilios de cocina en varias zonas rurales del país, es común verlas en las casas en una horqueta o paral, además es uno de los iconos más importantes de la alfarería Venezolana, siendo las más representativas las de la región Andina.
