DIY: From Junk to Art || Desecho Transformado en Arte

Hello creative friends, this time I am sharing the process I carried out to make and paint this little painting of one of my favorite aquarium fish, all this from recycled materials.

Que tal amigos creativos, en esta ocasión estoy compartiendo el proceso que lleve a cabo para realizar y pintar este pequeño cuadro de uno de mis peces de acuario favoritos. todo esto a partir de materiales reciclados.

A few days ago it occurred to me to recycle the remains of a small frame that I had at home because it was very deteriorated, to make a painting with the residues of some old inks as an initiative of a kind of personal challenge to turn waste into art only with the materials I have at hand.

Hace unos días se me ocurrió reciclar los restos de un pequeño cuadro que tenia en casa ya que estaba muy deteriorado, para realizar una pintura con los residuos de unas viejas tintas como iniciativa de una especie de reto personal de poder convertir desechos en arte solo con los materiales que tengo a la mano.

To start making the frame, I disassembled the old painting by removing the two pieces of wood that I had usable, from these two pieces of wood I cut and obtained four pieces; two of 12 centimeters and two of 14 centimeters.

Para comenzar a realizar el cuadro, desarme el viejo cuadro retirando los dos trozos de madera que tenia utilizable, de estos dos trozos de madera corte y obtuve cuatro trozos; dos de 12 centímetros y dos de 14 centímetros.

Then to assemble the frame I made a cut at 60º of approximate angle at each end of the pieces of wood to join and glue the pieces of wood forming a square using the square to form an almost perfect square.

While the glue of the painting was drying I cut a square piece from the pizza box cardboard to fit inside the painting which would serve as the canvas where I would make the painting, I also cut a square from the cardboard of the back of the old painting which would become the back cover of the painting.

Luego para armar el cuadro le realice un corte a 60º de angulo aproximado a cada extremo de los trozos de madera para unir y pegar los trozos de madera formando un cuadro empleando la escuadra para formar un cuadrado casi perfecto.

Mientras se secaba el pegamento del cuadro fui cortando del cartón de caja de pizza un trozo cuadrado que encaje dentro del cuadro el cual cumpliría la función de lienzo donde haría la pintura, ademas corte un cuadrado del cartón de la parte posterior del viejo cuadro que se convertiría en la tapa posterior de la pintura.

As the frame showed some defects, I decided to line it with newspaper to cover the imperfections.

Como al marco se le notaban algunos defectos decidí forrarlo con papel periódico para cubrir las imperfecciones que presentaba.

Once the frame was assembled, I began to apply a layer of paint on a piece of cardboard that I will use as a canvas to make the background of the painting, I did this by mixing and applying different colors using the brushes and the sponge to create texture to the background.

Una vez armado el marco, comencé a aplicar una capa de pintura en trozo de cartón que usare de lienzo para hacer el fondo de la pintura, esto lo hice mezclando y aplicando diferentes colores utilizando los pinceles y la esponja para crear textura al fondo.

Here I made a simple sketch of the betta fish without details just to have an idea of the space and the location of the drawing in the painting. I then proceeded to apply paint to the sketch forming the silhouette of the fish's body.

Aquí realice un boceto sencillo del pez betta sin detalles solo para tener una idea del espacio y la ubicación del dibujo en el cuadro. enseguida procedí a aplicar pintura al boceto formando la silueta del cuerpo del pez.

Then I completed the silhouette of the fish by painting its fins and tail, and then drawing the line with black paint to apply the details such as the mouth, eye and scales.

Luego fui completando la silueta del pez pintando las aletas y la cola del mismo. para después ir dibujando con pintura negra el lineado para aplicar los detalles como la boca, ojo y escamas.

Once I finished the details with black paint I added more layers of color and small details in color to the scales and eyes.

Una vez culminado el lineado de los detalles con pintura negra fui agregando mas capas de color y pequeños detalles en color a las escamas y a los ojos.

At this stage I was adding more layers of paint and more color details in the fins, in the scales and I was adding details to the eye.
As you can see I was varying a lot the color of the fish until I reached the tone with which I felt more satisfied.

En esta etapa fui agregando mas capas de pintura y mas detalles de color en las aletas, en las escamas y fui agregando detalles al ojo.
Como pueden observar fui variando mucho el color del pez hasta llegar al tono con el que me sentí mas conforme.

For a moment I diverted my attention to the bottom of the painting and I dedicated myself to give it a little more texture since it felt empty and simple. For this I applied thick drops of blue and yellow paint, some small lines of different colors and circles with white paint applied with a swab.

Por un momento desvié mi atención al fondo de la pintura y me dedique a darle un poco mas de textura ya que que lo notaba como vacío y simple. Para esto fui aplicando gotas gruesas de pintura azul y pintura amarilla, algunas pequeñas lineas de distintos colores y círculos con pintura blanca aplicado con un hisopo.

In this step I gave color to the frame of the painting, I did this by mixing different colors by applying them with a piece of sponge to provide a rough texture.

En este paso le di color al marco del cuadro, esto lo hice mezclando diferentes colores aplicándolos con un trozo de esponja para brindar una textura rugosa.

To finish this work I proceeded to place and fix the frame to the painting with some white glue and then I fixed the back cover of the painting. Once the white glue was dry, I started to make some touch-ups on the painting, such as applying more yellow and making a more fluid transition from yellow to green on the fins and tail of the fish, as well as detailing small shadows all over the fish.

Para culminar esta obra procedí a colocar y fijar el marco a la pintura con un poco de pega blanca y luego fije la tapa posterior del cuadro. Una vez seco la pega blanca comencé a realizar retoques en la pintura así como aplicar mas amarillo y hacer una transcision mas fluida del amarillo al verde en las aletas y cola del pez, ademas de detallar pequeñas sombras por todo el pez.
