What is a Japa Mala

It is a type of "rosary" or string of beads that is used in different philosophies of Eastern origin with the purpose of reciting "mantras" or prayers that are repeated with each bead in a meditative state.

Hindus and Buddhists use this powerful tool to invoke deities or reinforce decrees that elevate the spirit.

Of Sanskrit origin, its name translates "Mala" garland "Japa" to repeat the sacred. This is how this tool is made with wood from trees considered sacred (tulasi, sandalwood, rudraska), so that the prayers repeated with it have the endorsement of the divinity, it is a way to connect with the divine so that these prayers repeated with the Mala materialize.
Traditionally it is composed of 108 small beads attached to a larger bead and a tassel.
The 108 beads represent the layers of the ego, in Buddhism it represents wholeness and is a sacred number.
The larger bead represents the deity or divinity itself.
The tassel symbolizes the connection of matter with the divine.

Árbol Sagrado, Tagua. (Marfil Vegetal)

Vamos a comenzar! Materiales

Step 3

Finally we will assemble the tassel.
📿 We will take the thread and with the measure of the palm of your hand, we will make 108 turns.
📿 Remove your hand and with the end of the thread, knot with about 20 turns the end of the tassel to form a handle from which it will hang.
📿 With the needle still threaded to the end of the Mala, pass through the handle of the tassel to hang it, finish it off and knot it back through the larger bead.
📿 Tie a double knot that will be hidden in the buttonhole of the main bead.
📿 Cut off excess thread.
