This time he shows that applying a high voltage current to a small container filled with 1 mm steel balls and caster oil causes the balls to sporadically form chains and extend outwards to the aluminum foil outer surface. The setup involves a positive electrode in the center making contact with the balls / oil and a negative electrode making contact with the aluminum foil. The steel balls self-assemble like a metallic lifeform until the longest chain reaches the aluminum foil. This phenomenon can even be used to solve a maze. Pretty amazing stuff!
