It gets very hot in this side of the world and you have to dress accordingly to pull through the day. This is why I like wearing breezy clothing like tunics. They're comfortable for the hot weather and still appropriate for all occasion.
I got this burgundy crepe fabric and I used a yard of it for my tunic. It's the easiest thing to make and can be done in less than an hour if you're using a sewing machine.
The DIY
The first thing I did was draft the front piece pattern and I did this on folded fabric (fold in two). I marked my shoulder, bust line, waist and hem measurements and then connected all the lines. I used a neck depth and width of 4 inches to curve my neckline.
I cut the exact thing for the back piece but with a neck depth of 2 inches.
I made a long strip 1½ inches wide and turned the neckline of front and back pieces to hide the rough edges.
Next, I joined the pieces at the shoulder and sides, then sewed on the sleeves. You can do without sleeves of course.
I finished up the hem and closed the slit to my desired height.
...And we're done!
It's not quite the length I want, I should have made it longer. This length combined with the color is giving me nurse scrubs vibes. I made a matching pair of pants but I'm never going to wear it together because it makes me look like I'm straight out of the ER.
