Cutting and Procedures
Step 1: 2 yards of African print is folded into four squarely to bring out 2 pieces which will serve as the front piece and the back piece.
Placing the two pieces on each other, the tape was placed at the edge of the fabric to measure the neckline which is a collar neckline, from the neck the desired sleeve was marked as well
The burst measurement was marked as well. Since it’s a free gown, there is no need to take waist and hip measurements.
The fabric is free from the waist to the down part.
Step 2: As a kaftan dress, the collar was measured and cut out to fit into the neckline area up to the chest.
Step 3: Since the dress is a kaftan gown, the pocket was measured and cut out to give it comfortable wear for the owner.
The two pieces of fabric were cut out to serve as the pockets which shall be placed at each side of the hip.
Step 4: A long fabric of about 10inches was cut to be added to the hem of the dress
Step 5: To give the dress a befitting wear a rope that will serve as a belt was measured and cut out as well.
Sewing Procedures
Step 1: The sides of the front piece were joined to the back piece from the shoulder to the sleeve since it’s cut together with the sleeve and continues up to the hip area to be able to fix the pocket.
Step 2: After fixing the two side pockets, the rest of the sides were stitched to the end.
Step 3: The collar was stitched to the neck region up to the check area
Step 4: The long fabric cut out was pleated to the edge of the dress all around to give the dress a styling and the rough edge was hemmed for a neat finish.
Step 5: The long rope was folded into two and weaved to serve as the belt.
After the dress was sewn, it was perfectly ironed out and dress stones were ironed on it to give the dress a shining blink
The kaftan dress can serve as a party dress or maternity dress. It uses is multipurpose.
