A Dress Crafted with Love, Especially for Mum

I dug up this hamper on our visit to Birmingham Bullring market. I spotted a few and one is this colorful, delicate, soft fabric, I liked the way it falls. It was a bargain, so I bought it for 50 pence. I had planned on making it into a simple summer dress for myself.

However, the decision changed, and I was inspired to make it for my mum instead who's very far away, on the other side of the world, Philippines.

The cut is very simple, with a slit on the sleeves.

I gathered together on top of the shoulder to give an accent to its floaty look.

As the material is very delicate, I had to be careful when sewing it, both by hand and machine.

Then I decided to crochet the edges instead, but I couldn't decide which color.

In the end, I picked red. It is a very delicate, soft fine yarn, 95% cotton mixed with 5% merino wool. I managed to use a 1.2 mm hook with ease.

It was very repetitive and tiring crocheting the edges rather than sewing them. Knowing that it was for my mum, I carried on. It took me a good while, and I even fell asleep with it and accidentally dunked the whole thing in a cup of tea! Lol. I had to wash it the next day, but luckily it was easy to dry.

I appreciated the result of the edges; they suited the delicate material well. It was hard but I am pleased with the result.

As my mum loves belts, I decided to crochet one. I made 2 meters of red chain and 6 meters of blue.

Then I braided them neatly.

As it was too long, I had to hang it on the wall, which seemed to work well.

The belt turned out good, with alternating red and light blue.

This dress can be worn with leggings in a few different ways:

With the belt.

Without the belt.

Or with a low belt.

The back.

It is a free size, so there's no worry about it not fitting her. She likes clothes that are comfortable and easy to wear, and this will be very comfortable for her, especially in hot weather.

I tried it on to see, and I liked it. It's very light and comfy. I love how it floats when the wind blows.

I haven't changed my mind; it is still for my mum. Crafted with love. This will remind her that she taught me how to craft.

Have a wonderful day, everyone, full of creativity and joy!
