Ha sido una semana muy ocupada y extenuante, pero pude terminar con relativo éxito la segunda parte de este karma que me persigue, la odisea de los jeans apilados que me miran acusadoramente desde su esquina, cuestionándome sobre su destino final 👀 💦

It's been a busy and grueling week, but I was able to relatively successfully finish the second part of this karma that haunts me, the odyssey of the stacked jeans that stare accusingly at me from their corner, questioning me about their ultimate fate 👀 💧

• After many days of reading and extracting manga panels, I compiled everything in a folder and started the discarding process. In the end I was left with only 15% of all the images I had taken. Then I increased the saturation and fixed the contrast a bit to eliminate the gray tones and the frames •
La semana pasada mencione que personalizaría alguno de los jeans de esa torre demoniaca de pantalones con imágenes de manga japonés.
Para el martes en la mañana ya había hecho la lista de mangas (mi Top 3 de Mangas Shonen favoritos) que debía buscar y descargar (al final escogí esta categoria por pura nostalgia), de ellos extraería las viñetas para imprimir en el papel transfer.
De todo el proceso, esta fue la parte más laboriosa y la que llevo más tiempo, permítanme explicarles por qué:
D.Gray-Man actualmente está en hiatus, pero cuenta con 27 volúmenes, traducidos en 236 capítulos (casi más de 4.500 páginas de manga) ~
Yu Yu Hakusho es una obra terminada que cuenta con 19 tomos ~
Y finalmente, Shaman King, que también está finalizada (actualmente se emite un re-make del anime), tiene 32 volúmenes ~
Last week I mentioned that I would customize some of the jeans from that demonic tower of pants with Japanese manga images.
By Tuesday morning I had already made the list of manga (my Top 3 Shonen Manga Favorites) that I had to find and download (in the end I chose this category out of pure nostalgia), from which I would extract the vignettes to print on the transfer paper.
Of the whole process, this was the most laborious and time-consuming part, let me explain why:
D.Gray-Man is currently in hiatus, but it has 27 volumes, translated into 236 chapters (almost more than 4,500 pages of manga) ~
Yu Yu Hakusho is a finished work that counts 19 volumes ~
And finally, Shaman King, which is also finished (a re-make of the anime is currently airing), has 32 volumes ~
• The second step was to organize everything in a PowerPoint file. Yes, I know that in these cases Photoshop or another program is used, but I stuck with what I was taught in school for these cases and it works well for me •Así es. Revise/leí 78 tomos de manga la semana pasada, y a medida que los leía, recortaba y seleccionaba las viñetas que creía se verían mejor impresas en la tela (；人；)
Fue extenuante, quiero decir, reviví una de las mejores épocas mientras los revisaba pero FUERON DEMASIADAS PAGINAS. Y no me iba a rendir:
Porque si buscaba imágenes de los manga en Pinterest y/o Google, la calidad del scan varía mucho y la verdad no se ve bien. También son imágenes que muchas otras personas han utilizado ya y eso no tiene gracia.
That's right, I went through/read 78 manga tomes last week, and as I read them, I cut out and selected the vignettes that I thought would look best printed on canvas (；人；)
It was exhausting, I mean, I relived one of the best times as I went through them but THERE WERE TOO MANY PAGES. And I wasn't going to give up:
Because if I searched for images of the manga on Pinterest and/or Google, the quality of the scan varies a lot and it really doesn't look good. They are also images that many other people have already used and that's not funny.
El estilo del mangaka (dibujante) cambia a medida que avanza la historia, la trama de estos mangas cuenta que distintos arcos argumentales y cada uno tiene una variedad de características y evolución en el dibujo, que si llegas a tomar una imagen del tomo 5, y luego una del tomo 10, una viñeta puede chocar en estilo estridentemente con la otra.
Además, si yo no soy intensa en todo lo que hago, dejaría de ser yo misma, así que me fui por el camino más largo, pero que sabía me daría los mejores resultados (۶•̀ᴗ•́)۶ 💯
The style of the mangaka (cartoonist) changes as the story progresses, the plot of these manga tells that different story arcs and each has a variety of characteristics and evolution in drawing, that if you get to take an image from volume 5, and then one from volume 10, one vignette can clash in style stridently with the other.
Also, if I am not intense in everything I do, I would stop being myself, so I went the longer route, but one that I knew would give me the best results (۶-̀ᴗ-́)۶ 💯
Tengo muy buena suerte, porque hace unos años mi vecina instalo un pequeño servicio de papelería en su casa con toda clase de servicios de impresión, así que no tuve que aventurarme a exterior 🍀 🍀 🍀
Luego, recorte todo con mucha paciencia, disfrutando el proceso, porque ya lo más pesado había pasado (en este punto era la madrugada del sábado y yo estaba muy cansada) 🥺

Then, I cut everything out with a lot of patience, enjoying the process, because the heaviest part was over (at this point it was the early hours of Saturday morning and I was very tired) 🥺
Cuando todas las viñetas estuvieron recortadas y listas para planchar, volví a revisar los pantalones.
Escogí arreglar finalmente los dos que ven en las fotografías, porque uno tiene un color celeste claro precioso que estaba segura haría un fuerte y hermoso contraste con las viñetas; y el segundo, más oscuro, lo escogí por lo holgado y cómodo que es, nada ajustado 👌
Hice una prueba en un retacito de tela sobrante que le corte al jean celeste, para comprobar cómo quedaría (publiqué un preview en Twitter ese día!)
When all the vignettes were trimmed and ready to iron, I went back to check the pants.
I chose to finally fix the two you see in the pictures, because one has a beautiful light blue color that I was sure would make a strong and beautiful contrast with the vignettes; and the second one, darker, I chose because of how loose and comfortable it is, not tight at all 👌
I did a test run on a little piece of leftover fabric that I cut from the light blue jean, to see how it would look (I posted a preview on Twitter that day!)
Cambie el modo en que estaba reparando los pantalones, en lugar de hacer línea por línea, les hice un cuadrado pero en espiral, aplicando la costura exterior primero a modo de marco, y luego repasándola, tal cual una espiral, pero hacia adentro 💯

I changed the way I was repairing the pants, instead of doing line by line, I made them a square but in a spiral, applying the outer seam first as a frame, and then going over it, just like a spiral, but inward 💯
Then I reinforced with the stitching lines in the opposite direction to the fibers that broke.
Para el ruedo de ambos escogí algo sencillo y limpio, un ruedo doble hacia afuera para el jean azul, y un ruedo pequeño hacia dentro con puntada invisible para el jean celeste. Ambos los hice a mano.
For the hem of both I chose something simple and clean, a double hem to the outside for the blue jean, and a small hem to the inside with invisible stitch for the light blue jean. Both were done by hand.
FINALMENTE, busque todas las cosas que indica el instructivo del papel transfer, ensamble la mesa para lanchar, y dividí en 4 secciones todas las viñetas que imprimí.
Hice muchas pruebas en cada lado de cada pierna en ambos pantalones escogiendo el patrón en que fijaría las imágenes.
Esta parte fue muy divertida porque, fue aquí donde me di cuenta que todo el esfuerzo valdría la pena, todo estaba encajando perfectamente en su lugar, con las dimensiones que muy cuidadosamente le di a cada una ✧٩(•́⌄•́๑)و ✧
(A medida que montada las imágenes en el archivo de PowerPoint, medía con una regla los centímetros que ocuparía cada imagen en comparación al espacio de la tela sobre los muslos y bota de los pantalones).
FINALLY, I looked up all the things that the transfer paper instructions tell you to do, assembled the iron-on table, and divided all the vignettes I printed into 4 sections.
I did a lot of testing on each side of each leg on both pants picking out the pattern I would attach the images to.
This part was a lot of fun because, it was here that I realized that all the effort would pay off, everything was fitting perfectly in place, with the dimensions I very carefully gave each one ✧٩(-́⌄-́๑)و
(As I assembled the images in the PowerPoint file, I measured with a ruler the centimeters each image would occupy compared to the space of the fabric over the thighs and boot of the pants.)
Solo cuando estuve segura, tomaba una fotografía (como referencia para no olvidar el orden) y las retiraba, planchando una por una y protegiendo las anteriores con varias capas de tela, sin quitar la capa exterior del papel transfer.
Only when I was sure, I took a photograph (as a reference so as not to forget the order) and removed them, ironing one by one and protecting the previous ones with several layers of fabric, without removing the outer layer of transfer paper.
Cuando terminaba una sección completa, según las instrucciones esperaba a que estuviera completamente fría, y comenzaba a quitar el papel (ERA EL MOMENTO DE LA VERDAD MY DUDES) 😱
When I finished a full section, as instructed I would wait until it was completely cool, and begin to remove the paper (IT WAS THE MOMENT OF TRUTH MY DUDES) 😱

Recordé cuando tenía 13 años y volvía del colegio, para ver Shaman King en Televen (un canal nacional que en los 90´s e inicios del 2000´s emitía un bloque de animación japonesa BUENISIMO, ningún canal podía hacerle competencia).
I remembered when I was 13 years old and I was coming back from school, to watch Shaman King on Televen (a national channel that in the 90's and early 2000's broadcast a block of Japanese animation GOOD, no channel could compete with it).
Recordé cuando entre a la adolescencia y conocí Yu Yu Hakusho, cuando comenzaron a emitirlo en Cartoon Network Latinoamérica. De esta serie nace mi apodo de “Mino” (por Shuuichi Minamino/Youko Kurama, uno de los protagonistas), homenaje a mi personaje masculino preferido y eterno husbando.
Todavía estoy enamorada de Kurama (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧ pero en el pasado estuve intensamente obsesionada con el personaje.
I remembered when I became a teenager and got to know Yu Yu Hakusho, when it started to be broadcasted in Cartoon Network Latin America. From this series was born my nickname "Mino" (after Shuuichi Minamino/Youko Kurama, one of the main characters), homage to my favorite male character and eternal husbando.
I'm still in love with Kurama (｡-̀ᴗ-)✧ but in the past I was intensely obsessed with the character.
Cuando entre a la adultez, muy pasados los 20 años, conocí D.Gray-Man, y tuve el enorme privilegio de disfrutar y desglosar esta obra con el mejor grupo de amigas que alguien podría tener.
No puedo describirles la emoción de seguir una serie en emisión y vivir intensamente cada capitulo al lado de varias personas que te entienden, y tú las entiendes a ellas. El feedback era impresionante y lleno de emociones, porque cada una se identificaba con un personaje.
As I entered adulthood, well into my 20's, I got to know D.Gray-Man, and had the enormous privilege of enjoying and breaking down this show with the best group of friends anyone could have.
I can't describe to you the thrill of following a series on air and living intensely each chapter alongside several people who understand you, and you understand them. The feedback was impressive and full of emotions, because each one identified with a character.
Respecto a D.Gray-Man, todavía esa gestalt no la he cerrado, tengo pendiente terminar el traje de Allen Walker (las telas y la peluca están comprados hace años, pero como tenia sobrepeso, siempre atrase este proyecto... muchos complejos).
Regarding D.Gray-Man, I haven't closed that gestalt yet, I still have to finish the Allen Walker costume (the fabrics and the wig were bought years ago, but as I was overweight, I always delayed this project, I have a lot of complexes about my weight).

Antes de cerrar esta nota, necesito compartir una review que siento es necesaria respecto a este medio para transferir imágenes:
1. "¿Volverías a estampar pantalones con papel transfer?"
R: Mi respuesta es NO, a menos que sean pantalones muy muy muy holgados, o jeans solo en la parte de la bota.
No, porque aunque el material es de calidad, me parece muy costoso para el tiempo de vida que la imagen tendrá sobre la tela, que estimo, será de unas 2, máximo 3 pasadas por la lavadora antes que empiece a dañarse. Y como a mí me gustan las cosas que resisten el paso del tiempo, prefiero la próxima vez dibujar y pintar con marcadores permanentes.
2. "¿Las imágenes fueron fáciles de aplicar?"
R: No, no lo fueron, aunque seguí las instrucciones al pie de la letra, hubo imágenes que no se transfirieron, tuve que aplicar más calor, y queme algunas partes de los jeans.
3. "¿Recomendarías esta técnica a otras personas?"
R: SI. Pero para proyectos muy específicos, como transferir imágenes a prendas que no serán muy maltratadas, porque por ejemplo, si lo aplicas a una camiseta o pantalón ajustado, la imagen se desgarrara cuando tenses los músculos o te agaches a recoger algo.

Before I close this note, I need to share a review that I feel is necessary regarding this medium for transferring images:
1. "Would you go back to printing pants with transfer paper?"
A: My answer is NO, unless they are very very very very baggy pants, or jeans only on the boot part.
No, because although the material is of quality, it seems to me very expensive for the life time that the image will have on the fabric, which I estimate, will be about 2, maximum 3 passes through the washing machine before it starts to get damaged. And since I like things that stand the test of time, I prefer to draw and paint with permanent markers next time.
2. "Were the images easy to apply?"
A: No, they were not, although I followed the instructions to the letter, there were images that did not transfer, I had to apply more heat, and I burned some parts of the jeans.
3. "Would you recommend this technique to others?"
A: YES. But for very specific projects, like transferring images to garments that won't be too badly abused, because for example, if you apply it to a tight T-shirt or pants, the image will tear when you strain the muscles or bend down to pick something up.

✦ Before these pants were baggy, now they are tight because I went up from that. I noticed that one of the images got a little damaged when I bent down to put on my shoes, but nothing serious, the solution is to take the leftover paper from the images that remains when you remove it, place it on top, and iron it again. Estas obras tienen una carga emocional para mí, y es el tipo de cosas que te ayuda a conectar con partes de ti mismo que has olvidado, o emociones que creías apagadas.

Somehow this project has been therapeutic and helped me reconnect with things I love.
These works are emotionally charged for me, and it's the kind of thing that helps you connect with parts of yourself that you've forgotten, or emotions that you thought were turned off.
