Greetings, fellow needleworker! I've started on a journey to enhance my creativity by acquiring a new skill. As we recognize, knowledge is power, and continuous learning is important for growth. Given my passion for fashion, I aspire to explore every aspect of it. Upon discovering an opportunity to acquire a new skill, I eagerly seized it and enrolled in this interesting class where one could craft anything using wool and pins.
My tutor‘s display work
As mentioned in my previous post two weeks ago, I recently participated in my NYSC camping program. Unfortunately, due to numerous restrictions, my activities were confined to the organized program, and I couldn't engage in sewing since bringing sewing machines, even small ones, needles, or pins was prohibited.
Fortunately, During the camp, we were encouraged to learn a vocation. Despite alternative skill options such as photography, soap making, hairdressing, shoemaking, and so on, my passion for clothing led me to opt for knitting/crocheting. I was so happy because it's a creativity class and I love creativity. I chose to explore the art of knitting and crocheting because I appreciated the flexibility and resource efficiency compared to sewing.
The class
I'm pretty good at hand knitting and crocheting and I believe that it would be easy and fun, right?
In my first class, I expected it to be easy until I saw two long machines with hundreds of tiny needles that looked complicated to use. My tutor decided she start with machine knitting instead of regular hand knitting which I believe would have been easier for beginners. The knitting machine posed a challenge as I had never encountered one before.
The knitting machine
Enthusiastically, I attended the class, and my instructor provided a comprehensive overview, starting with an explanation of the various machine types and models to the parts and functions of each machine parts. Here is the note taken.
