Happy New Week to you all dear hivers and creative needleworkers. It's always exciting to start my week on hive where feels like home, the needlework community, and today I would like to share with us one of the important projects I made during the week.
As a lady, I feel there are some important types of clothing that shouldn't be missing from our wardrobe for our different special occasions, either for our jobs, date nights with friends, church, or other fun activities we involve ourselves in.
I made a post recently about changing my sister's wardrobe to suit her current lifestyle change as an employee in a corporate establishment which requires her to dress formally unlike the casual outfits that she was used to wearing as a student before her graduation. One of the most important pair of clothing she needs is a corporate trouser, especially in corporate colors such as black, navy blue, etc, as she can easily pair them with any shirt color and doesn't have to struggle too much on what to wear to work every day.
My promise to her is not yet done, come to think of it, I don't think I will ever be set free from this promise as fashion is a continuous process, which is what I love most about sewing, there is always a new thing to create and the pool of creativity is endless.
To make her pant/trousers, I bought about 2 yards of black crepe fabric, the extra materials I used were the zipper, paper stay for the band, and a black thread.
Cutting and Sewing Process
- I started by drafting the trouser pattern on fabric, starting with the front pattern
- After cutting out the front fabric, I used it in drafting the back trouser pattern, expanding the sides and the crotch area.
- Next I sewed in the darts and joined the pattern by the crotch area
- Moving on to add pockets, then I join the front and back by the sides and inseam area.
- To make the band, I measured out her waist and cut out a long strip of 5 inches width according to the measurement, on the fold it's 2.5 inches, I ironed the paper stay on it to firm it up so it will balance on her waist.
Finally, I sewed the band around the waist, also the zipper and hemmed the base of the trouser.
And that finishes the making process of her corporate trouser, trousers are one of the easiest clothing to make, especially when the drafting is done rightly, it gives the perfect for, and so did this one. I'm happy to be useful in this aspect of her life with my creative talent.
