6 Styles in 1: The Magic of a Reversible Jacket for My Aunt's Anniversary

Hello, dear creative hivers!

Hope you all are having a good day going so far, I woke up today feeling very energetic, in contrast to the gloomy weather, as it continues to rain heavily, from what seems to have started from midnight, but the rain got nothing on me, rather I'm going to channel my energy with the rhythm of the rain as it fell with several thudding sound my roof.

The past two days had me feeling very weak and unmotivated as I fell ill with malaria and even had to skip a day posting on Hive, though I commented on a few blogs I found interesting. Thankfully I feel much better today and decided to channel that energy into creating something beautiful for an aunt of mine who is celebrating her 20th wedding anniversary today,

I wish she was a hiver, and would have given her a mention, notwithstanding, I still get to share the creation of this beautiful piece, a reversible jacket and an inner with us which I know she would be so happy to receive.

If I'm asked to describe my aunt in one word, A minimalist would do justice to that description, she dislikes hoarding things and loves her her room spacious and breathable, so I thought of a dress that would fit perfectly, A reversible jacket and inner that can be styled in up to 6 different ways, through the course of this post, you might have already seen different images of this outfit, guess what they are all the same outfit, amazing! I know right, I bet you can even suggest extra styling from the ones I've presented.

Without further ado, let's get down to the making process.

I already shared a similar post on the making of the inner [here] it has the same making process and pattern. In this post, we will be concentrating on making the reversible jacket which is quite easy to make.

Materials used

  • Two different but matching ankara fabrics
  • matching colored thread.

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • I started by drafting a basic gown pattern, with a round neckline of about 3" in width and length for the front, and just an inch in depth for for the back.

**Note that the same process was repeated on both fabrics.

  • Then I trimmed out a V shape from the front two-piece pattern from the hem to the waist area.

  • Next, I sewed the back pattern by the center

  • joined it to the front patterns by the side and shoulders

  • I also drafted the sleeves to fit both fabrics and joined them to each of their bodice

  • So here is where the trick is, notice I didn't mention lining the jacket, that's because both serve as a lining for each other, to give it a clean finish at all raw edges, interestingly making the jacket reversible and wearable on both sides.

The rain has stopped now, making the weather breezy and cool with sunshine clearing the gloomy morning look as I take several shots of this masterpiece. I can't wait to get this outfit to my aunt this weekend and get to see the reaction on her face when I show her the numerous ways it can be styled.
