Home Decoration Challenge: Small Quilt

For the Needlework Monday challenge I chose to finish a small quilt from my UFO (unfinished objects) pile. I had pieced the top and cut the backing and even pin-basted it together, but it needed a binding around the edge. I cut wide (2 inch) bias strips from a remnant of orange gingham check fabric and pieced together enough to surround the quilt's perimeter.

Now the binding has been stitched to the front of the quilt, corners mitered, and turned to the back where I will turn under the raw edge and stitch it by hand. A few thread tacks within the body of the quilt, and I will have a nice little lap or crib quilt. I bought no fabric for this project. It is made from the good parts of an old blue sheet and from all my brown print leftovers.
