Today we went on an incredible hike from Simons Town in Cape Town, South Africa. We were hoping to see the Serruria or Blushing Bride which is a part of the Protea family.
What’s so special about this Blushing Bride is that it’s endangered and only blooms on this one mountainside in Cape Town.
We started our hike at 9am and within 30 minutes we were fave to face with the Serruria. It’s smaller than I thought, I guess that’s the problem with photographs, you don’t get the best idea of scale from photos.
The bloom is peculiar in that it has feathery fur like petals. It reminds me of a pincushion made of pale pink wool. Each bloom is roughly the size of my thumb.
These were definitely the highlight of the hike besides the spectacular views and we saw so many other flowers from the Protea and Erica family and beyond.
