LAS ABEJAS - THE BEES
Every year on May 20th, the international day of the most important animal in the world, the bees, is celebrated!
Si bien es cierto que todos los seres vivos de nuestro planeta son igual de importantes y necesarios para el equilibrio natural y que por esta razón debemos respetar a cada uno por igual, las abejas son consideradas por muchas organizaciones y la gran mayoría de la población, como el animal mas importante del mundo y por eso el 20 de mayo de cada año se celebra su existencia.
While it is true that all living beings on our planet are equally important and necessary for the natural balance and for this reason we must respect each one equally, bees are considered by many organizations and the vast majority of the population, as the most important animal in the world and that is why on May 20 of each year their existence is celebrated.
Los antofilos, conocidos comúnmente como abejas, son insectos pertenecientes al grupo de los Hemípteros, su tamaño puede variar según la especie, el tamaño mas común esta entre los 13 y 15mm, son de un color amarillo o naranja y poseen un aguijón punzante que usan para defenderse así mismas o a su colonia según sea el caso.
Anthophylls, commonly known as bees, are insects belonging to the group of Hemiptera, their size can vary according to the species, the most common size is between 13 and 15mm, they are yellow or orange in color and have a stinging stinger that they use to defend themselves or their colony as the case may be.
IMPORTANCIA - IMPORTANCE
Cuando pensamos en las abejas casi de inmediato llega a nuestra mente la palabra miel, pero aunque sea difícil de creer solo una pequeña parte de la población apicola es la que produce la miel que consumen los humanos, de hecho existen 20.000 especies de abejas conocidas y el 85% de ellas son solitarias y no viven en colmenas.
La importancia de estos animales radica en su poder de polinizacion, un proceso vital para la reproducción de las plantas y la vida vegetal de la tierra.
Muchos animales contribuyen con la polinizan de las plantas, como mamíferos, aves y algunos reptiles, pero aunque parezca difícil de creer solo un 2% de las especies de abejas son responsables de el 80% de la polinizacion de los cultivos.
When we think of bees, the word honey almost immediately comes to mind, but although it is hard to believe, only a small part of the bee population produces the honey consumed by humans. In fact, there are 20,000 known species of bees and 85% of them are solitary and do not live in hives.
The importance of these animals lies in their power of pollination, a vital process for the reproduction of plants and plant life on earth.
Many animals contribute to the pollination of plants, such as mammals, birds and some reptiles, but although it may seem hard to believe, only 2% of bee species are responsible for 80% of crop pollination.
Entonces al saber esto, ¿se imaginan que pasaría si estos animales por alguna razón desaparecen? De seguro no seria un panorama bonito, toda la vida como la conocemos dejaría de existir y no es algo que queramos.
So knowing this, can you imagine what would happen if these animals for some reason disappeared? It sure wouldn't be a pretty picture, all life as we know it would cease to exist and it's not something we want.
Por esa razón en el año 2017 la ONU designo el 20 de mayo de cada año como día internacional de las abejas, promoviendo su conservación y cuidado.
For that reason, in 2017 the UN designated May 20 of each year as International Bee Day, promoting their conservation and care.
Todos y cada uno de nosotros podemos ayudar a preservar la existencia de estos tan importantes animales, evitando quemar sus colmenas y llamando a expertos en el caso de encontrarse con una para su correcto traslado y liberación en áreas protegidas.
Each and every one of us can help preserve the existence of these important animals, avoiding burning their hives and calling experts in the case of finding one for its correct transfer and release in protected areas.
