Icelandair's Saga Business Class Lounge Review

Reykjavik, Iceland was my 17th and final European city stop before heading back home to Hawaii via Alaska and Seattle.

I got the chance to fly Saga Class, which is Icelandair's business class. I'll have a review out for Icelandair's actual business class seating on the airplane, but for this review will strictly cover Icelandair's Saga Lounge at Keflavik International Airport.

Side note for those who are first time visitors to Iceland, the main international airport you would book flights to is KEF, or Keflavik International Airport ... NOT Reykjavik Airport. Some people actually get confused and knowing the distinction is important since booking bus transport to/from airport, I've heard of people booking bus transport to the wrong airport. Reykjavik Airport is located literally right in the heart of Reykjavik city, next to the BSI bus terminal so that's not the right airport for international travelers.

Okay now that I prevented any readers from making that mistake, let's get on with the Saga Lounge review. Keflavik International Airport now is experiencing an immense boom in tourist traffic, that this small airport actually cannot handle the amount of in/out passenger traffic.

When you go beyond security, there is a small area for people to go and have restaurant style food/refreshments, otherwise, the rest of the airport terminal has limited amount of seating next to the gates, which then causes people to stand/crowded around the gate areas. This was evident when I went to board for my Seattle bound flight, and there was also 6 other flights scheduled to leave around the same time that evening. The terminal area was just overcrowded with people, not knowing which line was boarding which gate.

I was glad that I had access to the Saga Lounge to get away from the crowd. The Saga Lounge is tucked away and located on the second floor. When I entered the lounge around noon, the lounge was virtually empty ... which was great!

Icelandair's Saga Lounge Space Overview

The Saga Lounge is just simply gorgeous. Since it recently opened in May 2017, the new Saga Lounge takes elements of Icelandic culture and puts it right into the furnishings and decorations.

There is ample lounge space that anyone that comes in and can have a choice of seating, along the windows or closer to the refreshment area. There are sleeper lounge chairs, regular sofa chairs, table arrangements, and high bar table seating. As mentioned before, PLENTY of seating and the lounge never gets overcrowded.

I like that they've taken large boulders and rocks from the Icelandic surroundings and decorated in select areas of the lounge, to make you feel like you are back out in Iceland's outdoor nature. To give the warm feeling, there's an enclosed fire pit located towards the upper left hand side of the lounge, where there is a row of sofa chairs lined up. There's plenty of electrical outlets to charge your electronics and free wifi if you need to connect.

Icelandair's Saga Lounge Drink Selection

Plenty of refreshments to drink. I chose to drink the Icelandic local beer, Gull. If you aren't a beer fan, plenty of spirits and liquor to choose from as well, including their local vodka, Reyka.

Icelandair's Saga Lounge Food Selection

The biggest plus is the lounge food selection. I've been to many standard airline lounges, and Icelandair's lounge food selection is the best (if we don't compare to the big Middle Eastern airline lounges).

You can find fresh herring, salmon, local Icelandic meats, tomato soup, and much much more that you cannot go hungry in this lounge. Even the dessert selection is amazing.

Overall, I'd totally fly out of Iceland in business class just to get access to this amazing lounge. Worth every penny!
