Amazing Nature Contest - August 2021 - #03

I have to tell you that evening primrose is very difficult to photograph. That specific yellow color seems to fade when I want to paint. I managed to catch this beautiful flower when the evening was a specific light ... when the sun sets and it is clear, then the reflection of the setting sun will be in the sky for a while ... And the twilight is not so gray and the colors are clearly visible ..

This flower is better known as the yellow nightshade (lat. Oenothera biennis). It was named by the Greek historian and biologist Theophrastus, in 300 BC, because its root reduces the desire for wine and other alcoholic beverages. The Latin name means just that - a wine hunter.

Use and healing properties of evening primrose
In some countries, nightshade is also used as a vegetable. Young leaves and roots are used as a salad or stew. As the most important pharmacological ingredients, evening primrose has polyunsaturated fatty acids: alpha-linoleic acid, gamma-linolenic acid and about 8% of saturated fatty acids..

It has large yellow flowers ... They attract moths that pollinate them. The beautiful yellow flowers open only in the dark and remain open throughout the night. Before morning, the flowers wither, and the next evening, new flowers adorn the plant. That is why it got the popular name nightingale.

These are some beliefs and legends about the evening primrose
in my country.....

Everything is different on earth, it is rarely the same. While the plants usually bloom during the day, Noćurak * gives the beauty of its flowering to darkness. When nature sleeps, no one walks, so one cannot even see what is happening in the fields of mystery.

According to the belief, all the plants bloomed first, and the seeds of the Nightingale were late in the germination of time and blossomed at night, and in the morning it was silky to sleep through the day; that no one roses the beauty of its flowers.

Defending himself, Noćurak entered the magic of plants as a sign of defense against the evil of everything that is visible. It is not picked during the day, because then it has no power, and the women who are waiting for the night moment of the opening of its flowers tear it into a bouquet and take it home to wrap it under the porch, as protection from night visions. The one who does not fall asleep all night next to the blossoming Noćurk, so he awaits the dawn when his rosaries are folded, establishes in himself the magic of perseverance and defense against every earthly trouble.

According to its different colors, whiteness, redness and yellowness, it is determined what will happen when day and night. Just as cancer changes color at night, so does the human face, fortunately and unhappily. The character betrays the human soul, its worries, diseases and conspiracies, what bothers and oppresses it.

Where Noćurak grows, one goes at night on a full moon, when the whole earth is illuminated and the paths and riches are visible and do not lead the traveler into wandering. He chooses a place in the mountain and waits in ambush for complete silence. The word is not spoken in silence. As soon as the moon sets behind the clouds and its radiance of unheated light disappears, the leaves of the plants sway, the stems intertwine, and the white flowers open and turn the whole landscape into a view of fragrant whiteness.

That celebration of the night, from which the life of happiness is required, so that everything in the house is clear and clean, turns into a prayer to Noćurka with the words: "We are not asking for anything, just to have good".
