What we consider a wild plant, may surprise us with many hidden properties. It goes same with me, as normally,I never looked down the internet over a wild shrubs that grows everywhere in our region.

More importantly, we often find the leafes of the plant in our home. In form of disposable plates or bowl of the dried leaves. They were abundant in our area. I am talking about big Green leaves of Palash Tree (as called in India), scientifically known as Butea Monosperma and also quite popular with Flames of Forest.

The fresh leaves does make you to get closer, it's soft touch make you to caress it. However in India, especially in Hinduism, this plant has a special significance and is considered to be very sacred. In one of the article I read over I ternet it states :

As per Hindu belief, the tree originated from the fallen feathers of a falcon soaked in Somarasa – the drink and offering made to Devas in Vedas. The religious significance of the tree starts with the trifoliate formation of the leaf – the middle part of the leaf represents Bhagwan Srihari Vishnu; Brahma on the left and Mahadev Shiva on the right.

These plant which grows as tall as 10m-12m in height also bears seasonal blood Red flowers. This is the time , when the entire jungle turned into Red and these trees called as "Flames of forest", turning the jungle into Flames with the Red flower all over the place.

The contribution of this plant to Hinduism is immense. While, the twigs and wood are used for burning in havan, the leaves were used to pour ghee in havan and to to make disposable plates and bowl. Flowers of this plant are offered to Goddess Saraswati.
The plant also posses many medicinal properties. There is common practice bathing with flower mixing with warm water may help in getting rid of many skin disease, the glue of the plant help in making other medicine. The flower is crushed and mixed with milk and given to pregnant mothers to gain strength.
