WATCHING WILD LIZARDS HATCH IN OUR OWN HANDS!

What an experience!

This was so cool! A while ago, Monster Truck found a small clutch of eggs buried inside one of our garden beds. Not wanting to harm them, we recreated a "natural environment" for them inside of a bucket and then kept an eye on them. Eventually, we saw them start to open.

To watch a wild reptile hatch in our hands is not a foreign concept to us. This was the sixth species that we've been blessed to observe emerging from their eggs right in the palm of our own hands. In the video above, we get that amazing experience with Rough Green Snakes, Black Rat Snakes, Prairie Kingsnakes, Eastern Fence Lizards, and Five Lined Skinks. In the photos below, it's Little Brown Skinks.

Being able to experience such things definitely helps instill an appreciation for the wild creatures in our children. It helps them to know and understand how life works. Have you ever had such an experience? Enjoy the photos!
