Espero que se encuentren de maravilla, por mi parte estoy muy feliz de poder compartir con ustedes una de mi más grandes alegrías y es que este año tuve la dicha de cosechar muchas fresitas en mi jardín, anteriormente les había hablado sobre mi plantita pero desde hace unos meses se extendió y creció mucho haciendo que a la hora de dar sus frutos la cantidad superara a las de las pequeñas cosechas anteriores, aquí les cuento un poco.
I hope you are feeling great, for my part I am very happy to be able to share with you one of my greatest joys and that is that this year I had the joy of harvesting many strawberries in my garden, previously I had told you about my little plant but for a long time A few months it spread and grew a lot, so that when it came to bearing fruit, the quantity exceeded those of the previous small harvests, here I will tell you a little.
Mi plantita de fresa no es de la comunes, pues sus frutos son los que se conocen como Fresa silvestre y se debe a su minúsculo tamaño, son mucho más pequeñas que las que todos hemos comido alguna vez y a mi parecer hasta más ácidas. No sé realmente el origen de esta planta, pues, mi suegro nos regaló un hijito de la que tenía en su jardín pero no sabemos de dónde salió esa, la cual por cierto ya no existe, por lo tanto la mía es la que queda viva y ha sobrevivido todo este tiempo.
Al principio creímos que la planta no progresaría por el clima, pues es una planta de clima frio y mi zona es súper calurosa y caliente, sin embargo, al brindarle los cuidados necesarios logramos que se adaptara tanto al suelo como al clima, de igual forma para no forzarla la plantamos en una parte donde no pega el sol tan fuerte, apenas recibe algo de luz solar y eso es suficiente para ella, el suelo también influye mucho, la tierra está bien nutrida y a su vez tiene buen drenaje ya que si recibe mucha agua o se estanca esto puede provocar que se ahogue o sus raíces se pudran provocando que la planta muera.
My strawberry plant is not common, because its fruits are what are known as Wild Strawberry and it is due to its tiny size, they are much smaller than the ones we have all eaten at some time and in my opinion even smaller acid. I don't really know the origin of this plant, well, my father-in-law gave us a little son from the one he had in his garden but we don't know where it came from, which by the way no longer exists, therefore mine is the one that remains alive and it has survived all this time.
At first we thought that the plant would not progress due to the weather, because it is a cold climate plant and my area is super hot and hot, however, by providing the necessary care we managed to make it adapt to both the soil and the climate, in the same way In order not to force it, we plant it in a part where the sun does not hit so strongly, it barely receives some sunlight and that is enough for it, the soil also influences a lot, the soil is well nourished and in turn has good drainage since if it receives too much water or it stagnates this can cause it to drown or its roots rot causing the plant to die.
Tenemos esta planta desde hace aproximadamente 1 año y al llegar a casa apenas tenía unas pocas hojitas, luego que se adaptó al suelo comenzó a crecer y ha dado frutos al menos unas 3 veces, no obstante, desde hace unos meses nos ha sorprendido el crecimiento que ha tenido, se ha extendido mucho más pegando sus raíces por todo su alrededor hasta triplicar su tamaño.
We have had this plant for about 1 year and when we got home it barely had a few leaves, after it adapted to the soil it began to grow and has borne fruit at least 3 times, however, for a few months the growth has surprised us that it has had, it has spread much more sticking its roots all around it until it has tripled its size.
A principios de enero comenzó a dar las primeras flores luego de su crecimiento y debo decir que me impresionó muchísimo la cantidad, pues, nunca la había visto tan llena de flores y era algo realmente hermoso y de ver.
At the beginning of January it began to give the first flowers after its growth and I must say that I was very impressed by the quantity, because I had never seen it so full of flowers and it was something really beautiful and to see.
Luego fue más emocionante aun ver desarrollarse sus primero frutos brotando de las flores luego de caer sus pétalos y algo que no había visto nunca antes en esta planta es que salían varios frutos de una misma ramificación, llegando a tener hasta de 6 a 8 frutos por ramita mientras que anteriormente solo salían de a una sola.
Then it was even more exciting to see its first fruits develop, sprouting from the flowers after their petals fell and something that I had never seen before in this plant is that several fruits came out of the same branch, reaching up to 6 to 8 fruits per twig while previously they only came out one at a time.
Las fresas crecen relativamente rápido, un día apenas está saliendo el fruto y en un parpadeo ya han crecido y han madurado, por lo que fue necesario darme a la tarea de revisar la planta a diario para ver que todo estuviera en orden, algo muy importante a tener en cuenta es que cuando comienzan a salir los frutos no podemos permitir que se mantengan en contacto directo con el suelo, es decir, que aunque sea algo natural en las plantas sus frutos no pueden tocar la tierra o de lo contrario se pudrirán o secarán, así que una de esas tareas diarias era revisar cuando habían frutos nuevos para colocarles algo debajo a fin de que no toquen el suelo, en mi caso yo a cada fresa le colocaba una piedrita debajo y era más que suficiente para que se mantuvieran alejadas de la tierra y así evitar que se dañaran.
Strawberries grow relatively quickly, one day the fruit is just coming out and in the blink of an eye they have already grown and matured, so it was necessary to give myself the task of checking the plant daily to see that everything was in order, something very important to keep in mind is that when the fruits begin to come out we cannot allow them to remain in direct contact with the ground, that is, even though it is something natural in the plants, their fruits cannot touch the ground or else they will rot or they will dry, so one of those daily tasks was to check when there were new fruits to place something under them so that they did not touch the ground, in my case I placed a pebble under each strawberry and it was more than enough for them to stay away of the earth and thus prevent them from being damaged.
Una vez que las fresas comienzan a tornarse de un color rosa es solo cuestión de tiempo que maduren y se vuelvan rojas, esto pasa prácticamente de un día a otro o como máximo 2 días, es por ello que se deben vigilar constantemente sus frutos, para poder cosecharlos en el tiempo ideal, pues, si nos descuidamos se pueden pudrir o también se las pueden comer las hormigas o algún insecto, la planta es un tanto delicada así que para retirarle los frutos debemos cortar únicamente la ramita de donde viene la fresa y evitar dañar las que crecen a su alrededor.
Once the strawberries begin to turn pink, it is only a matter of time before they ripen and turn red, this happens practically from one day to the next or a maximum of 2 days, which is why their fruits must be constantly monitored, to to be able to harvest them at the ideal time, because, if we are careless, they can rot or be eaten by ants or some insect, the plant is somewhat delicate so to remove the fruits we must only cut the twig where the strawberry comes from and avoid damaging the ones that grow around it.
Las fresitas silvestres no tienen un tamaño especifico, son pequeñas, más que las comunes eso sí pero desde que las he estado cosechando en esta nueva temporada he notado que tienen diferentes tamaños, incluso he visto algunas un tanto “deformes” que supongo no se terminaron de desarrollar por completo, sin embargo, eso no les impide madurar, solo que prácticamente no se disfruta por ser aún más diminuta, como dicen por allí “se queda en una muela”.
The wild strawberries do not have a specific size, they are small, more than the common ones, yes, but since I have been harvesting them in this new season I have noticed that they have different sizes, I have even seen some somewhat "deformed" that I suppose have not finished to fully develop, however, that does not prevent them from maturing, it is just that they are probably not enjoyed because they are even smaller, as they say "it stays in a tooth".
Desde que la planta comenzó a dar sus frutos y estos a madurarse he cosechado prácticamente a diario, hay días en los que cosecho solo una fresa pero hay otros en los que he llegado a cosechar hasta 6 de ellas, todas rojitas y hermosas, y aunque parezca algo tonto o simple es para mi un orgullo poder cosechar estas frutas directo de mi jardín, pues, como les mencioné en un principio, este clima no es para esta planta e incluso puede considerarse un tanto “exótica” porque no es común tener una en un jardín, sin embargo, yo la tengo y me hace feliz poder tenerla y cosechar de ella.
Since the plant began to bear fruit and they are ripening, I have harvested almost daily. There are days when I only harvest one strawberry but there are others in which I have harvested up to 6 of them, all red and beautiful, and although seems silly or simple, I am proud to be able to harvest these fruits directly from my garden, because, as I mentioned at the beginning, this climate is not for this plant and it can even be considered somewhat "exotic" because it is not common to have a in a garden, however, I have it and it makes me happy to be able to have it and harvest from it.
Como último punto debo decir que aunque estas fresitas se vean adorables y den la sensación de ser dulces no lo son para nada, de hecho son más ácidas que las de tamaño normal, aunque también probé unas hace unos días que estaban algo “aguadas” casi sin sabor y en realidad no se a que se deba, pero como sea mi cosecha ha sido bastante buena e incluso perdí la cuenta de cuantas fresas he recolectado, sin embargo, puedo decir con certeza que han sido al menos unas 50, lamentablemente no puedo esperar para juntarlas todas porque una vez que se desprenden de la planta se dañan muy rápido si no se consumen.
As a last point I must say that although these strawberries look adorable and give the sensation of being sweet, they are not sweet at all, in fact they are more sour than the normal size ones, although I also tried some a few days ago that were almost "watery" tasteless and I don't really know what it is, but anyway my harvest has been quite good and I even lost count of how many strawberries I have collected, however, I can say with certainty that there have been at least 50, unfortunately I can't wait to gather them all because once they are detached from the plant they go bad very quickly if they are not consumed.
