The moray is a very shy animal which quickly takes refuge in the galleries of the rocks in the presence of an overly curious visitor. This open mouth posture is vital for the moray. The moray is a fish, and like any fish it must filter oxygen from seawater in order to live. Keeping his mouth open or making movements with his mouth allows him to circulate water through his gills and therefore to breathe! So have no fear, but it is also not necessary to test the animal until you put your hand in its hole ...! |
Ceux d'entre vous qui ne plongent pas gardent à l'esprit cette image de la murène à la bouche pleine de dents et grande ouverte prête à se jeter sur vous tel un cobra que l'on aurait dérangé. Et ben non ! La murène est un animal très timide qui se réfugie rapidement dans les galeries des roches en cas de présence d'un visiteur trop curieux. Cette posture gueule ouverte est vitale pour la murène. La murène est un poisson, et comme tout poisson elle doit filtrer l'oxygène de l'eau de mer pour vivre. Le fait de rester la gueule ouverte ou de faire des mouvements avec sa bouche, lui permet de faire circuler l'eau par ses branchies et donc de respirer ! N'ayez donc aucune crainte, mais il n'est pas non plus nécessaire de tester l'animal jusqu'à mettre la main dans son trou...! |
