"Eating Garden Food"
I've been eating vegetables and berries from my garden. Of course, I can't produce all vegetables by myself yet (hoping though) so, I am eating some vegetables from my garden. My vegetables are very different from professional farmer's vegetables. For example, my vegetables' shapes, sizes, colors, tastes are not like products from stores. My vegetables are smaller, irregular, uniform colors. Although the tastes are pretty good.
When you go to a supermarket, sometimes you can find a reasonable vegetable section because of the bad shapes. My vegetables are like that. Probably I don't use fertilizer like products, and also I don't have professional techniques like them. Hmm... but the tastes are pretty good. I don't sell my vegetables, so I am happy to eat irregular-looking vegetables.
I god used to this land since I moved in. I watch plants, and nature every day. I think growing some vegetables in the home garden need at least three years to understand the environment. Even after knowing the environment, we learn from mistakes and differences. For example, I couldn't pick berries this much last year. I see berries everywhere on my property this year. Also, I see more bees this year. Every time when I am in my garden, I remember my grandparents' happy faces with their vegetables.
"庭のたべものを食べる”
庭で採れる野菜やベリーを食べています。もちろん、たくさんの野菜を自分で作ることはできないので（そうなりたいですが）、庭で採れるいくつかの野菜を食べています。わたしの野菜はプロの農家の方たちの作る野菜とは全然違います。たとえば、形、サイズ、色、味は売り物の野菜とは違います。わたしの野菜は小さく、ふぞろいの形で、色合いもさまざまですが、味だけはおいしいです。
スーパーに行くと、たまに形が悪くお求めやすいコーナーのようなところがあると思いますが、私の野菜はあんな感じです。肥料をたくさん使わないのと、技術の差だと思います。でも…味はいいのです。売り物ではないので、ふぞろいな見た目の野菜でもよしとします。
今住んでいる土地にだんだん慣れてきました。植物や自然を毎日観察しています。自宅菜園で野菜作りをスタートするには、少なくとも３年くらいかかるような気がします。環境に慣れてからも失敗や変化から学ぶことがたくさんあります。たとえば、ベリーが去年よりも今年はたくさんとれます。敷地内のいたるところに生えています。蜂の数も去年より多いです。庭にいると、昔野菜を育ててうれしそうにしていた祖父母の笑顔を思い出します。
