The rockrose gorgeousness

Cistus salviifolius

I just adore those flowers! And I don't care they are fast spreading and very invasive weeds. They are also flammable (I heard) and dangerous during hot summer especially around trees. Thus they are often removed or cud down to the ground. It is just safer.

But they will always come back the next year. Bushy and covered in flowers :)

The are common in the Mediterranean region, some parts of UK and north Africa. If blooms from March until the end of June. In that time it will also grow new stems, leaves and will produce tons of seeds!

In summer, when it is very hot and dry the whole bush dies back and looks like covered in rust. It will start to regrow and green up again in the late fall.

The flowers are not very big comparing to other types, maybe 5 cm across. But the catch up with quantity.

Hundreds and hundreds of buds constantly show up and open one by one.
