The Lotus Flower, Stages of Bloom.

About a week ago, I decided to get some things from the convenient store for lunch, 7 11 to be exact ( it’s not as grimy as it is in the states here in Japan). Then I decided to head to the park to have a little lunch date with nature. As I was eating, I looked to my left and saw a bunch of lotus flowers growing in the huge pond. Interestingly I managed to capture flowers at different stages of bloom.

In the shot above we can see the lotus flower budding and ready to come to life. In the shot below we can see the lotus flower open with its pink tips but we can’t see the stamen.

The shot below is of the same flower above but from the side. You can see that the lotus flower is partially open and looking glorious.

And here we have the fully open lotus flower with the stamen being shown.

The stamen is the male fertilizing organ of a flower, typically consisting of a pollen-containing anther and a filament.

Oh, what did I have for lunch?

Well I had a tuna & mayo onigiri and a mini bun filled with beans.

Below is a picture of the lotus colony taking over this section of the pond. I leave you with some info from wiki, you can click the link to see more.

Lotus plants are adapted to grow in the flood plains of slow-moving rivers and delta areas. Stands of lotus drop hundreds of thousands of seeds every year to the bottom of the pond. While some sprout immediately, and most are eaten by wildlife, the remaining seeds can remain dormant for an extensive period of time as the pond silts in and dries out. During flood conditions, sediments containing these seeds are broken open, and the dormant seeds rehydrate and begin a new lotus colony.
