Beware of dangerous cliffs

If you saw my post from yesterday, then you already know that @flowerbaby and I traveled to Red River Gorge, KY over the weekend. As I mentioned before, we hiked 4 different trails of the Daniel Boone National Forest at Red River Gorge in the state of Kentucky.

Today's post is going to be focused on trail 2 of 4. This one is called Chimney Top Trail and the trailhead was in the same parking lot as Princess Arch (trail #1) Speaking of parking, it was pretty full. Luckily we found a spot on the side of the road like a several other people were forced to do.

Somehow both trails were not overwhelmed with people. I was expecting to have to deal with a thick crowd after our crowded experience in Hocking Hills, OH last September. Feel free to check these links if you want to revisit our hikes at Old Man's Cave and Cantwell Cliffs

Back to Chimney Top Trail at Red River Gorge. At very beginning there were a few signs warning of the dangers that were ahead. People are actually stupid enough to fall off these cliffs to their death. As soon as I get anywhere close to the edge, my instinct says get away. I don't see how anybody could ignore their inner survival to accidentally get too close and fall to their own fatality. As you may have guessed, @flowerbaby and I both survived this hike.

This trail wasn't very long either. It was just barely longer than our half mile trek out Princess Arch. I don't think that Chimney top was even a mile long, but that doesn't mean we didn't see a lot of beauty in that short period of time.

Along the route we witnessed a couple hanging out on the edge of a cliff, but didn't go down that path since they were enjoying their privacy. Luckily on the way back we did end up going to that same spot, my goodness was it worth it. We were up so high that the group of hawks that were flying around were at eye level for us. I wondered what would happen if one of them decided to swoop down and rest their wings next to us. Of course that didn't occur, but we did enjoy watching them glide around gracefully.

At the very end of the out and back trail was probably the most spectacular view. The only thing is that our line of sight was kind of spoiled. It turns out that some couple had decided that they wanted to get married at the overlook. This means that there was a couple posing for photos with a marriage officiant at the location. There was family there as well and it was honestly just way too many people there at once.

Both @flowerbaby and I are courteous people, so we didn't barge into their photos just to get a look of the land below. A part of me respects that group for having the courage to take over the best part of the trail. It was their special day. I wasn’t too mad, there was after all much more to see throughout the giant forest. The other side of me wanted to push them off the cliff’s edge for blocking my girlfriend from seeing what we hiked out to see. Don’t worry, I behaved.
