A Walk, a Quick Bite and a Walk to Talk About at Another Time

Hello friends and Hivians. Hope everyone is doing great, I'm doing great after some activity earlier this morning into the early afternoon hours. My activity included taking two different walks in two different states. I'll share the latter next Wednesday which also lead to a discovered future walk I want to take.

I started my walk at the Fish & Game Club located right off of Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I'm a member of the club and it's a good starting place to take a nice long walk. Plus it offers ample and most importantly peace of mind parking. There is video surveillance around the place 😁

I've shared about this place before so I won't bore you with things I've shared in the past. A few years ago this oak tree was struct by lightening and was in horrible shape. Rather than get rid of the tree entirely it was converted into a simple bird feeder. The tree use to attract a lot eagles and I wasn't sold that it would still after being in its current state. Some have said they have seen a eagle feeding there but I haven't seen it. I have seen it attract geese and ducks.

There is a sail club right next to the club. A rare sight is seeing sail boats in the Midwest, especially in Iowa, hehe. The lake is just big enough to support this activity though. Well let's get some steps in now.

The first part of the walk was walking alongside a golf course. There were a few people out swinging clubs despite the skies being cloudy and dreary looking. It rained pretty hard the night before and I had a feeling it may happen again. In my head I had this one particular song stuck in my head. The song and artist is I Got a Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas. The real lyrics go, 🎶 I got a feeling that tonight's gonna be a good night 🎶 In my head it played out, 🎶 I got a feeling it's gonna rain right now 🎶 I'll save you the drama it didn't rain and the Rain God spared me because I wasn't at all prepared!

After completing my walk along golf course I came to the main lake entrance. It was only a short distance later I seen a lake filled with American Yellow Lotus plants. In the last two years these things have taken a lot of the shoreline. They are beautiful aren't they? 😍 It's not always the best sight seeing them covering some of your secret fishing spots though 😢

Walking along the same road is a completely different look on the other side of the road. There's a small narrow canal off the side of the lake. On one side of the canal there's a lot of shoreline to fish while the other side is filled with elegant lake front mansions. Dream houses for so many that look at and witness them. I would love to have a boat slip in my back yard. I might actually use my boat more often, haha.

A bit of a walk later I arrived at the mid point location of the walk. A place called Boy Scout Island which is a great little fishing location btw! It has a nice sized fishing dock too. Maybe I should have walked with my friend, Mr. Fish Pole. Oh there's days ahead to make that happen as I'm on vacation this week 😁 It also marks where I will end this first walk as I turned around and headed back to the starting point. A short walk, no not at all, I walked 5.6 miles (2.8 miles each way).

The place has some amazing trees that are probably in the range of being over 150 years old. Recently some trees have been cut down because the inside of the trunks are hollow. A sad thing to see but it also neat to see the inside of a large tree. This one above I could have climbed in and sat down in.

Two trees with two different short term destinies. The one on the left is strong and healthy looking up close. The other is starting to deter on the inside like two other trees that were cut down. Well there is still a few large older oaks that strive on this island. There are also some trees that were planted a few years back.

Well all that walking deserves a reward doesn't it? Well it was nearing 10:00 a.m. still a bit too early for lunch so I decided to hit up a Dunkin Donuts. Perfect place to get some caffeine, a donut, and something not too huge to eat.

I tell you I switched my bites taking a sip in between them. Why would a take a bite of that toasted coconut donut first, haha? I tell you because it is my favorite donut there, so I can't say it was for desert 😂

The sandwich hit the spot and it was a sausage, egg and cheese croissant. I really wanted it on an English muffin but they were all out of them. I than decided on a plain bagel but once again out of those as well. They had flavored bagels but I thought that would taste horrible.

The drink is a little bit of a rarity for me as I don't usually drink coffee in the cold variants. It was an Iced Carmel Craze Special Latte. The taste was good but a bit sweet to my liking. Also it had way too much ice in it which led to it being finished rather quickly. Hey I had my hot coffee upon waking up so it wasn't like I was really going out of my comfort zone. All in all not a bad quick bite.

Well after breaking I went for another walk as I had a bit of a sugar rush. That will be my walk for next week which lead to another walk I discovered and haven't taken yet. I did some walking today people! This post also serves as my submittal for the Wednesday Walk iniative hosted by @tattoodjay

Take care, stay safe and let's get through the rest of the week. Until next time!
