Morichales is a concentration of this plant called "Moriche". It is a tall palm tree of more than 10 meters, several are concentrated in one place with a purpose. Here I explain it to you and it is something extraordinary that I met while visiting a part of the state of Bolivar, in Venezuela. When you travel to the Amazon you can see these morichales in the distance when you go down the road. A landscape that fills you with awe and admiration, splendid plains of kilometers of savannah and when you see the top of these moriche palms together. When I saw them for the first time, I just admired their role in the environment in which I was, because they stand out. But I did not imagine what I would find when I saw them up close, my appreciation and admiration was different, because under them there is water, honey-colored, crystalline and pure because they are filtered by the sands of the savannahs.

Morichales es una concentración de esta planta que se llama "Moriche" . Es una palmera alta de más de 10 metros, que se concentran varias en un solo sitio con un propósito. Aquí se los explico y es algo extraordinario que conocí visitando una parte del estado bolivar, en Venezuela. Cuando viajas hacia amazonas se pueden divisar estos morichales a lo lejos cuando vas por la carretera. Un paisaje que llena de asombro y admiración, llanos espléndidos de kilómetros de sabana y cuando ves lo alto de estás palmas de moriches juntas. Cuando las ví por primera vez, solo admire su papel en el entorno en qué estaba, pues sobresalen. Pero no me imaginé lo que encontraría al verlos de cerca, mi apreciación y admiración fue otra, pues debajo de ellos hay agua, de color miel, cristalinas y puras pues se filtran con las arenas de las sábanas.

This Moriche plant has under each palm, at one time of the year, its load of fruit.

Esa planta de Moriche tiene debajo de cada palma, en una época del año su carga de fruto.

They have an oval shape and when they are ripe they are intense red and that is the moment to cut the bunches and eat the fruit. When you open it, it has a spectacular orange pulp, a source of vitamins and one of the most used fruits by the native Indians and nearby populations. Some people make juices and ice cream with its pulp. I got to taste it... It has an acid touch, fatty and fermented, something very peculiar in that drink.

Miren son ramilletes con muchos de ellos, tienen forma ovalada que cuando están maduros son Rojo intenso y allí es el momento de cortar los ramilletes y comer de ese fruto. Cuando lo abres tiene una pulpa naranja espectacular, fuente de vitaminas y uno de los frutos más aprovechados por los indígenas nativos y de las poblaciones cercanas. Algunas personas hacen jugos y helados con su pulpa. Llegué a probarla... tiene un toque ácido, grasoso y es fermentado, algo muy peculiar en esa bebida.

Some morichales have little water under their palm trees, and animals such as horses, donkeys, cows and bulls go there to drink water.

Algunos morichales tienen poca agua debajo de sus palmeras, y allí van los animales a tomar agua como caballos, burros, vacas y toros.

But others are deep water like this one, ideal for bathing in its pools.

Pero otras son de aguas profundas como está, ideal para bañarse en sus pozas.

When you are under their shade, after a long walk, you feel such a peace and relaxation that you don't want to leave them. And even more so when you can bathe in their water in some of them.

Cuando se está debajo de su sombra, después de una larga caminata, se siente una paz y relajación tal que no provoca dejarlos. Y más cuando puedes en algunas bañarte en sus agua.

You feel how your body is relieved of stress and the temperature of the water is so warm that you leave refreshed with a new spirit.

Sientes como tú cuerpo se descarga del estrés y la temperatura de sus agua es tan cálida, que sales renovado con un nuevo espíritu.

So much so that every weekend that I could, I returned to them to enjoy the shelter of its waters and shade, the warmth and crystal clear waters. A perfect combination.

Es tanto que cada fin de semana que podía, volvía a ellos a disfrutar del cobijo de sus aguas y sombra, lo cálido y cristalino de sus aguas. Una combinación perfecta.

And the diversity of animals it houses, parrots, macaws that make their nests in the tall palm trees, herons, alcaraban, and others. While enjoying its waters you can delight in watching how these birds enjoy themselves and benefit from this ecosystem.

Y la diversidad de animales que alberga, loros, guacamayos que fabrican sus nidos en las altas palmeras, garzas, alcaraban, y otros. Mientras disfrutas de sus aguas puedes deleitarte observando cómo estás aves se divierten y se benefician de este ecosistema.

I think that each region of my country has its natural beauty, one different from another. But experiencing up close this ecosystem of the morichales was an unforgettable experience, renewing and moved me to love nature more. For me its purpose of being there is fulfilled: to feel satisfaction, fulfillment and to love and care for what we have. These ecosystems are being attacked by burning and mining exploitation, we must become aware and think that if we want our future generations to know them, we must take care of them.

Yo pienso que cada región de mi país tiene su belleza natural, una diferente de otra. Pero experimentar de cerca este ecosistema de los morichales fue una experiencia inolvidable, renovadora y me movió a amar más la naturaleza. Para mi su propósito de estar allí se cumple: sentir satisfacción, plenitud y amar y cuidar lo que tenemos. Estos ecosistemas están siendo atacados por la quema y explotación de minería, debemos tomar conciencia y pensar que si queremos que nuestras generaciones futuras los conozcan, debemos cuidarlas.
