It's a new month and another month of grinding. It's been gloomy on my side of the world for weeks, or probably a couple of months now, although the sun showed up quite often, but not usually the whole day. Mr. Sun somehow knows to choose the day to step out, during the weekend which gives us fine weather to stroll somewhere down the road. However, today, he showed up perfectly. I'm now seeing blue skies and white clouds, not grey. I guess it's perfect to visit the mountain on the weekend.
The first day of the month was Labour Day, thus a public holiday. Even those who aren't working had a chance to rest for a day. They're lucky too, aren't they? I was out that day and opted to visit a museum in Tsim Sha Tsui. It wasn't really my plan, but since I was there and I found out that the entrance was just free, so why not enter?
I was in MOA, not Mall Of Asia popularly known in the Philippines, but MOA for Museum Of Art here in Hong Kong. The museum has four floors and you can imagine how big it is. Upon stepping onto the 3rd floor, I thought I entered the wrong room as I saw people having a party. I initially thought there was a party going on as I saw a long table packed with food and decorations. Meanwhile, visitors were taking photos of them.
I thought it was an event hall of the museum intended for parties and other events. I was about to enter the other exhibition room when I noticed that, those on the table have similarities, the designs and colors, and people around don't seem to touch or eat the food. Upon checking it out, those are actually porcelains and this was part of the art exhibitions held by one of the artists.
They call it, "Make A Wish visual art exhibition by Angel Hui Hoi Kiu. The artist is popularly known for her ink work on tissue paper inspired by daily objects. From doing ink artwork on tissue paper to collecting porcelains from different times and places.
The information about this exhibition was just posted on the wall which made me easier to understand why it was set up that way. This 14-meter table was occupied by 500 underglaze blue and white porcelains in celebration of the 500th anniversary of Jiajing's Emperor's ascension to the throne and the museum's 60th anniversary.
So 500 porcelains stand for 500 years. This museum has 3 art galleries and this art gallery houses collections of real porcelains from the Jiajing Emperor's time. I'll share a separate post about this museum one of these days.
A beautiful white swan was set up at the end of the table. There were different food designs, such as cakes, muffins, chocolates, popsicles, ice cream, Chinese buns, doughnuts, pizza, bottles of wine, different varieties of fruits, and snacks, and there was even a huge roasted pork at the center. There were toy designs too like cute teddy bears, origami, robots, and some personal stuff like shoes, bags, masks, phones, and even baby bottles. So this party certainly is for kids as well.
Anyone can sit on the chairs and see the collections up close. Visitors serve as honored guests and they can even take photos with the collections at the table as if they are birthday celebrants. The displays shouldn't be touched, but curious ones, especially kids, couldn't keep themselves from touching those collections because they truly look enticing like real food. However, any damage caused by visitors should be paid. And they certainly cost reasonably higher than ordinary price expectations.
It was such a creative art exhibition and given that those porcelain collections were from different times and spaces, the artist, Angel, is truly commendable. I learned that she also has artwork displays in other museums internationally.
The best part here is, the museum is facing the waterfront which offers a stunning view of the Victoria Harbor.
That's all for today. Thanks for stopping by.
