What is up, travelers! I hope you all are doing great. Today I'll continue talking about the trip I made to the Northeastern region of Brazil, to Rio Grande do Norte state. As I said in the previous post, I went to Natal and the day after I made a short trip to a nearby municipality called "Extremoz", in which the famous beach called "Genipabu" is located.

¿Qué tal, viajeros? Espero que todos estén muy bien. Hoy voy a seguir hablando del viaje que hice a la región Nordeste de Brasil, al estado de Rio Grande do Norte. Como dije en el post anterior, fui a Natal y al día siguiente hice un viaje corto a un municipio cercano llamado "Extremoz", en el que se encuentra la famosa playa llamada "Genipabu".

Considered as part of the metropolitan region of Natal, Genipabu is always showcased in touristic promotional materials and advertising campaigns due to its breathtaking landscape. When I just got there, it was impossible not to be impressed by its seashore – the high sandy dunes in contrast with the turquoise sea provide a spectacular view, being even more beautiful than Ponta Negra Beach's landscape, in my opinion.

Considerada como parte de la región metropolitana de Natal, Genipabu es siempre exhibida en materiales de promoción turística y campañas publicitarias debido a su impresionante paisaje. Cuando recién llegué allí, fue imposible no quedarme impresionada por su orilla – las altas dunas de arena en contraste con el mar turquesa proporciona una vista espectacular, siendo incluso más hermoso que el paisaje de la Playa de Ponta Negra, en mi opinión.

I arrived in Genipabu in the morning on that day – my plan was to go on a buggy ride through the dunes and lagoons, one of the most popular activities there. So, before taking the ride, I stopped at a seashore restaurant tent to eat some breaded shrimp – actually, one of my favorite beach snacks ever. There are several experienced buggy drivers offering real thrilling rides – they always ask if you want a ride with a high or low level of excitement, which means the buggy driver can descend the dunes at high speed if you choose the high excitement one (in Portuguese, the question is "com ou sem emoção?").

Ese día llegué a Genipabu por la mañana – mi plan era dar un paseo en buggy por las dunas y lagunas, una de las actividades más populares del lugar. Así que, antes de dar el paseo, paré en una tienda-restaurante a la orilla del mar para comer camarones empanizados – en realidad, uno de mis aperitivos de playa favoritos. Hay varios conductores de buggy con experiencia que ofrecen verdaderos paseos emocionantes – siempre te preguntan si quieres un paseo con un nivel alto o bajo de emoción, lo que significa que el conductor del buggy puede descender por las dunas a gran velocidad si eliges el de alta emoción (en portugués, la pregunta es "com ou sem emoção?").

Of course I chose the high excitement ride – and it was really savage. The buggy first bypassed the seaside before going to a part where is all dunes – and that's when the adventure began. The driver seemed so relaxed while telling me about the place and then, suddenly, he accelerated and went down the dune at high speed several times – I felt like being on a rollercoaster. Then, after some minutes, we arrived at the first lagoon, called Lagoa do Rio Pratagy (Pratagy River's Lagoon).

Por supuesto, elegí el paseo de alta emoción – y fue realmente salvaje. El buggy pasó primero por la orilla del mar antes de llegar a una zona de dunas – y ahí empezó la aventura. El conductor parecía muy relajado mientras me contaba sobre el lugar y, de repente, aceleraba y bajaba por la duna a gran velocidad varias veces – me sentí como en una montaña rusa. Y entonces, después de unos minutos, llegamos a la primera laguna, llamada Lagoa do Rio Pratagy (Laguna del Río Pratagy).

The place impressed me in a positive way – the water was warm, there were many hammocks inside the lagoon where you could lie down and relax for hours – and, specially, there weren't many people that day, so I could choose any hammock and just enjoy the water while drinking a cocktail.

El lugar me impresionó de manera positiva – el agua estaba caliente, había muchas hamacas dentro de la laguna donde te podías tumbar y relajarte durante horas – y, sobre todo, no había mucha gente ese día, así que pude elegir cualquier hamaca y simplemente disfrutar del agua mientras bebía un cóctel.

^{The lagoon has a good but simple infrastructure to spend the whole afternoon, with bar, restaurant and shops}

Unfortunately I couldn't spend much time on Pratagy Lagoon since there were other places to visit in a short period of time. The next lagoon I went to was Lagoa de Jacumã (Jacumã Lagoon). This lagoon is bigger than the previous one and there are other things to do there besides bathing – the attractions of this lagoon are the radical activities, like zip-line and sandboarding.

Desafortunadamente no pude pasar mucho tiempo en la laguna de Pratagy, ya que había otros lugares para visitar en un corto período de tiempo. La siguiente laguna a la que fui fue la Lagoa de Jacumã (Laguna de Jacumã). Esta laguna es más grande que la anterior y hay otras cosas para hacer además de bañarse – los atractivos de esta laguna son las actividades radicales, como tirolesa y sandboarding.

The sandboarding practiced there actually isn't the classic one in which the person goes down the dune standing on a board, but whether you sit on the board, with the hands on the sand to control the speed, until you fall into the water. Each turn costs around $15 and $20 BRL ($3 and $4 USD, approximately). I had never done such activities before, so I was a little reluctant to try sandboarding but I ended up going since I didn't know when I would have the opportunity again. It started going down slowly at first, but from the middle onwards it gained speed enough to make me drown when I reached the water, haha. It was really fun in the end.

El sandboarding que allí se practica en realidad no es el clásico en el que la persona baja por la duna de pie sobre una tabla, sino que uno se sienta en la tabla, con las manos en la arena para controlar la velocidad, hasta caer al agua. Cada vez cuesta alrededor de $15 y $20 BRL ($3 y $4 USD, aproximadamente). Yo nunca antes había hecho estas actividades, así que estaba un poco reacia a intentar el sandboard, pero terminé yendo porque no sabía cuándo volvería a tener la oportunidad. Empezó a bajar lentamente al principio, pero a partir de la mitad ganó velocidad suficiente como para hacerme ahogar cuando llegué al agua, jaja. Al final fue muy divertido.

Among the two activities, I enjoyed zip-line the most – so much that I had to go down twice. It was sooo good to feel the adrenaline of flying towards the water and the final splash was remarkable. I just wish the fall was longer. Then, finally, I went to Lagoa de Pitangui, the last lagoon, to a water park where you can play in big inflatable slides or just relax on hammocks.

Entre las dos actividades, la que más me gustó fue la tirolesa – tanto que tuve que bajar dos veces. Fue taaan bueno sentir la adrenalina de volar hacia el agua y el splash final fue extraordinario. Sólo desearía que la caída fuera más larga. Por último, fui a Lagoa de Pitangui, la última laguna, a un parque acuático donde se puede jugar en grandes toboganes hinchables o simplemente relajarse en las hamacas.

The way back was more tranquil as I could enjoy the view with no strong emotions involved, heh. The buggy driver stopped by a certain point where we could see the beach from above, also there were lots of cashew trees nearby, so I could pick up some to eat and take some home to make cashew juice later.

El camino de vuelta fue más tranquilo, ya que pude disfrutar de las vistas sin emociones fuertes implicadas, jeje. El conductor del buggy paró en un punto desde donde podíamos ver la playa desde arriba, y también había muchos árboles de anacardos cerca, así que pude tomar algunos para comer y llevarme otros a casa para hacer jugo de anacardo después.
