You'd be wondering for sure if it's a coastal place or a mountainside since hills are everywhere but the sea can always be seen. Well, that'd be expected in a region that's almost the size of a big island. That's why going here and going out will be hard because only a few vehicles would go here. If there's a vehicle to go here, it will be a special trip or we should say an expensive fare. Obviously, the students and the parents would have a hard time when going to a school far from it. Not just time-consuming but also required a lot of money.
Long ago when the elementary school was not yet built. Children walked for approximately 7 km to arrive at the nearby school where they were studying. The teachers saw the hardship of the children in going to school.
In 2006, the school was founded. The reason was because the nearby school was too far from this village. Also, the dream of the locals was to have a primary school so that their children could school here and their children would be educated. Compared to having a far school, it would be a reason for the parents not to send their children to school.
Kinder, grade 1, and grade 2 were first founded but only in 1 room and it was called back then a preparatory school. It was a good decision because the numbers of children who were enrolling were rising. Years passed and the school added 2 year levels, namely grade 3, and 4. From preparatory school it became a primary school.
When Ma'am Mylene A. Wong became principal or the head teacher, she decided to add 2 year levels, grade 5 and 6 because the parents of the children suggested it. They wanted to see their children graduate here. So the head teacher made it happen. Although it was made possible, they only have a few rooms. The grades 4, 5 and 6 are in one single room but only a makeshift one.
This elementary school is the smallest elementary school in the overall town of San Francisco Southern Leyte. There are 7 year levels but only 3 classrooms and 3 teachers are in-charge. There are two rooms but not the standard type school classrooms, they are called makeshift buildings. They just built it because the rooms are not enough since the number of students is growing. Also, it's just the head teacher of this elementary school's initiative to build a makeshift room. She's doing a good job as a head teacher because she's the one who requested the plans from the division office to make it happen in establishing the makeshift room.
The reason I chose this school to receive the donations of what @chrisrice offers is because of the situation here. From what I heard and learned on a teacher that I interviewed last time. Many students are having a hard time providing their basic school supplies. Many children wanted to go to school but because of poverty, there are some who decided not to go to school instead.
Even though some parents are very supportive of their children going to school, it's just not enough. It's sad but some parents and families do not have enough to provide for their children as students need. So obviously, buying school supplies is hard for them. That's why, even just a small amount could be much for these children here. Anyway, you can watch the video in my previous post to learn about the students or children's situation here.
Having said that, there are still families who are struggling to access education. Many children are in a family who can not afford the basic needs of studying. Like the basic school supplies, pens, paper, bags, and notebooks. Though others can easily afford it, there are parents who are low-income and find it hard to acquire. Luckily, one of my friends on Hive, namely @chrisrice, a co-founder of D.Buzz (@dbuzz) offered help to those children I personally chose, from a school I noticed has the students with the hardest upbringing.
