When I got married a few years ago, I wanted to do everything myself. The decoration, the floral arrangements, even the dress, which was a big mistake because after making the design and buying all the materials my aunt and I started to make the dress, but I knew it was not going to work, even so I did not want to break my aunt's heart who was very excited about sewing, when I measured it and looked at myself in the mirror I thought, if I have to wear this dress to get married, then I am NOT getting married, it was then when I got brave and decided to tell my aunt that I would not wear that dress. To my luck, she just laughed, and told me, let's go to the Silencio towers in Caracas, there I bought my dress in her company, I only tried on one and it was the one I wore for my wedding. I was happy with my new dress. If you are wondering what this story has to do with the sculptor I bring you today, it turns out that among so many things I wanted to do for my wedding, I saw in a bridal magazine a picture of a cheese table where there was a fabulous sculpture of a swan and immediately I went down to buy a melon and I started to practice my swan figure, I wanted that swan on my cheese table. It was acceptable, too bad I lost my phone, those pictures I took 14 years ago. In the end I couldn't do most of what I had planned, I got overworked and on my wedding day I was so tired I ended up sleeping on a couch in the middle of the reception. That only happens to me. Anyway, today we bought melon at the fruit market and I thought it would be a good idea to share how to make this cute and easy sculpture to decorate any cheese or fruit table, which I couldn't have on mine. I used some fruit as an addition to decorate the plate.

Cuando me casé hace unos años, quise hacerlo todo yo. La decoración, los arreglos florales, incluso el vestido, lo cual fue un gran error porque después de hacer el diseño y comprar todos los materiales mi tía y yo nos pusimos a confeccionar el vestido, pero sabía que no iba a salir bien, aun así no quería romperle el corazón a mi tía que estaba muy ilusionada con la costura, cuando me lo medí y me miré al espejo pensé, si me tengo que poner este vestido para casarme, entonces NO me caso, fue entonces cuando me armé de valor y decidí decirle a mi tía que no me pondría ese vestido. Para mi suerte, ella solo se rió, y me dijo, vamos a las torres del Silencio en Caracas, allí compré mi vestido en su compañía, solo me probé uno y fue el que usé para mi boda. Estaba feliz con mi nuevo vestido. Si se preguntan qué tiene que ver esta historia con el escultor que les traigo hoy, resulta que entre tantas cosas que quería hacer para mi boda, vi en una revista de novias una foto de una mesa de quesos donde había una fabulosa escultura de un cisne e inmediatamente bajé a comprar un melón y me puse a practicar mi figura de cisne, quería ese cisne en mi mesa de quesos. Era aceptable, lástima que perdí mi teléfono, esas fotos las hice hace 14 años. Al final no pude hacer la mayor parte de lo que había planeado, me agobié y el día de mi boda estaba tan cansada que acabé durmiendo en un sofá en medio de la recepción. Eso sólo me pasa a mí. En fin, hoy hemos comprado melón en el mercado de la fruta y he pensado que sería una buena idea compartir cómo hacer esta bonita y fácil escultura para decorar cualquier mesa de quesos o frutas, que no pude tener en la mía. Utilicé algunas frutas como complemento para decorar el plato.

The first thing to do is to cut one side of the melon to make a base and make it firm.

The next thing to do is to take out a wedge-shaped piece of melon. We do this by making a horizontal cut leaving a centimeter between the base and the cut. Then we make a vertical cut and slide the portion backwards. Now we make another cut leaving a centimeter of space with respect to the previous cut and slide this new slice backwards. Repeat the process until there are no more portions to remove and do exactly the same on the other side.

Lo siguiente es sacar un trozo de melón en forma de cuña. Lo hacemos haciendo un corte horizontal dejando un centímetro entre la base y el corte. Luego hacemos un corte vertical y deslizamos la porción hacia atrás. Ahora hacemos otro corte dejando un centímetro de espacio con respecto al corte anterior y deslizamos esta nueva rebanada hacia atrás. Repetimos el proceso hasta que no haya más porciones que quitar y hacemos exactamente lo mismo en el otro lado.

To make the swan's neck and head, a portion of the part between the swan's wings is removed and the head is shaped with a small knife.

I used apple peel to make the flowers and guava to make other shapes. I also used mandarin oranges and plums as part of the decoration.

Utilicé cáscara de manzana para hacer las flores y guayaba para hacer otras formas. También utilicé mandarinas y ciruelas como parte de la decoración.
