# English I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that talking about *Skyrim* is, in a nutshell, talking about one of the most important videogames for me. The Elder Scrolls saga is not the one I've played the most titles, in fact I met it precisely with *Skyrim*, and probably the game itself is not even the one I've dedicated more hours to (I'm not so sure about this last one), however it has that *I don't know what* that manages to catch me every time I start a new game and wake up in that carriage, captured by the Empire, about to lose my head in the decapitation slash. That's why, when I heard about the new game modes (thanks to the anniversary edition of this one) I said to myself "I have to play it" and, like many times before, I went back to the carriage, this time in *Survival Mode* and started, once again, the *Dragonborn* story.

# Español Creo que no exagero al decir que hablar de *Skyrim* es, en pocas palabras, hablar de uno de los videojuegos más importantes para mí. La saga de *The Elder Scrolls* no es de la que más títulos he jugado, de hecho la conocí precisamente con *Skyrim*, y probablemente el juego en sí no es ni siquiera al que le he dedicado más horas (de esto último no estoy tan seguro), sin embargo tiene ese *no sé qué* que logra atraparme cada vez que inicio una nueva partida y despierto en aquel carruaje, capturado por el Imperio, a punto de perder la cabeza en el tajo de decapitaciones. Por ello es que, cuando me enteré de la existencia de nuevos modos de juego (gracias a la edición aniversario de este) me dije «tengo que jugarlo» y, como muchas veces antes, volví al carruaje, esta vez en el *Modo Supervivencia* e inicié, otra vez, la historia del *Sangre de Dragón.*

A bit of context: *Bethesda* relatively recently released the *Anniversary Edition* of *Skyrim.* With it they made official several mods created over the years and created several others.Those of us who only have the *Special Edition* can still enjoy several of these new features, most notably *Survival Mode*. This mode means that the *Dragonborn*, which means us, will be hungry, sleepy and vulnerable to temperature changes (swimming in freezing water kills you, for example); we also lose the option of fast travel. It's a perfect gameplay system for those of us who, like me, have travelled the icy roads of Skyrim from end to end in search of new challenges.

Un poco de contexto: *Bethesda* lanzó hace relativamente poco tiempo la *Anniversary Edition* de *Skyrim.* Con ello oficializaron varios mods creados a través de los años y crearon otros tantos. Los que solo tenemos la *Special Edition* igual podemos disfrutar de varios de estas novedades, entre las cuales destaca el *modo supervivencia*. Dicho modo consiste en que el *Sangre de Dragón*, o sea nosotros, tendrá hambre, sueño y será vulnerable a los cambios de temperatura (nadar en aguas heladas te mata, por ejemplo); además perdemos la opción de los viajes rápidos. Es un sistema de juego perfecto para los que, como yo, hemos recorrido los gélidos caminos de Skyrim de punta a punta en busca de nuevos retos.

And what a surprise it was to notice for the first time how the *Dragonborn* fell down from cold, hunger and sleep. Literally stamina, health and magic vanish in the blink of an eye if the needs for warmth, food and rest are not met. Anecdotally, on one of my first missions I tried to cut my way through the glaciers beneath the College of Winterhold; I ended up freezing to death.

Y vaya sorpresa que fue notar por primera vez cómo el *Sangre de Dragón* caía abatido por el frío, hambre y sueño. Literalmente el aguante, salud y magia se desvanecen en un abrir y cerrar de ojos si las necesidades de calidez, comida y descanso no son atendidas. Como anécdota, en una de mis primeras misiones intenté cortar camino por los glaciares bajo el Colegio de Hibernalia; terminé congelado.

Yes, this may seem like a simple thing to do; it really is. It could have been implemented into the game's mechanics many years ago (in fact, people in the community did it) and it may even feel like just an excuse to keep juicing up *Skyrim* (it very much is), but it also gives the game an air of freshness, that sense that, even though it's the same, it feels like something new. Items that used to be useless ( prepared meals, torches, fishing rods) are now indispensable. You have to know what time to go out, what clothes to wear (for warmth rather than armour) and, if you play on max difficulty, you're likely to run away and/or die several times before you get the hang of it. I haven't yet, but what I've seen so far satisfies me. I've gladly returned to Skyrim.

Sí, podrá parecer algo simple esto; lo cierto es que lo es. Pudo haberse implementado a las mecánicas del juego muchos años atrás (de hecho, gente de la comunidad así lo hizo) e incluso puede que se sienta solo como una excusa para seguir sacándole jugo a *Skyrim* (en buena parte lo es), pero también le da un aire de frescura al juego, esa sensación de que, a pesar de que es lo mismo, se siente como algo nuevo. Yo aún no lo he hecho, pero lo que he visto hasta ahora me satisface. He vuelto a Skyrim con mucho gusto.
