Yesterday morning at 3 am I woke to hear the freeze dryer had stopped. I don't like to let it sit in final mode for too long so I got up and kicked the cycle back on for another 4 hours till after I got up. We soaked, then before I took J to school the cycle ended.
The first tray is the pear melon and the second is half pear and half Minnesota midget melons.
Each of the next three trays are the midgets and now we have only about 20 mostly small melons left ripening. In all we have run about 65 to 70 pounds of the midget melons through the freeze dryer this year which amounts to all of 4 pounds processed, but that 4 pounds more than fills a 5 gallon bucket.
63 hours seems to be the standard time for a full batch of highly juicy melon.
The side walls show how much water is removed. It took 4 hours for it to defrost the couple inches of ice.
I was busy all day so didn't get the next batch in but it will be the raspberries for sure.
