What was your position (in terms of birth) in the family? How did that experience help you become, or hinder you from becoming, a successful adult?
Hablar de la familia siempre es algo placentero para mi porque provengo de una familia grande y unida, soy la tercera de 10 hermanos de madre y padre, 7 hembras y 3 varones, yo soy la tercera porque antes de mi nacieron mi hermana Andrés 4 años mayor y mi hermana Emerita 2 años mayor, así sucesivamente todos mis demás hermanos en promedio nos llevamos 2 años de diferencia.
Talking about the family is always something pleasant for me because I come from a large and united family, I am the third of 10 brothers of mother and father, 7 girls and 3 boys, I am the third because my sister Andrés was born 4 years before me older and my sister Emerita 2 years older, so on, all my other siblings on average are 2 years apart.
En aquel tiempo en la escuela nos agrupaban por edades cercanas, es decir que mis dos hermanos inmediatamente mayores y yo comenzamos juntos la escuela, así que vimos clases juntos y nos íbamos caminando a la escuela a diario, esta escuela quedaba lejos, yo al ser la menor me sentía bajo la protección y guía de mis hermana y hermano mayor, pero siempre existía más cercanía hacia mi hermana porque era niña como yo, mi hermano era a veces travieso y cruel con sus bromas hacia nosotras las niñas, pero era algo normal, yo crecí siendo de cierto modo la protegida, pero pasado los años comencé a atener un papel más importante como hermana mayor de los hermanos siguientes.
At that time at school we were grouped by close ages, that is to say that my two immediately older brothers and I started school together, so we watched classes together and we walked to school every day, this school was far away, I being the youngest felt under the protection and guidance of my sister and older brother, but there was always more closeness towards my sister because she was a girl like me, my brother was sometimes mischievous and cruel with his jokes towards us girls, but it was something normal , I grew up being in a certain way the protégé, but over the years I began to have a more important role as the older sister of the following siblings.
Siempre fui muy cercana a mi mamá, así que en cada embarazo y proceso de tener a un hermano pequeño yo al tener la edad suficiente comencé a ayudar a mi mamá en todo lo que podía, yo cuide mucho a mis hermanas y hermanos menores, creí que en ese aspecto maduré de forma temprana, sentía empatía por mi madre al atender el hogar a los niños y era parte de mi responsabilidad ayudar en todo, eso me ayudó a crecer como una mujer responsable, también creció mi gusto por cuidar de los mas pequeños, tanto así que cuando mi hermana mayor tuvo a sus primeros hijos ella me trajo a la ciudad y mi función era ayudarle a cuidar sus hijos.
I was always very close to my mother, so in each pregnancy and the process of having a little brother, when I was old enough I began to help my mother in everything I could, I took good care of my younger sisters and brothers, I believed that in that aspect I matured early, I felt empathy for my mother when taking care of the children at home and it was part of my responsibility to help in everything, that helped me grow as a responsible woman, my taste for taking care of the most also grew small, so much so that when my older sister had her first children she brought me to the city and my role was to help her take care of her children.
Creo que el tiempo de ser la hija menor fue corto, pero pronto tuve la satisfacción de cuidar a mis hermanos menores, hoy todo ellos son personas de bien mujeres y hombres comprometidos con su familia, honestos y muy trabajadores, siento que cumplí bien mi rol de hermana mayor y aun continúo disfrutando de ese privilegio al estar con vida y en constante contacto con todos mis hermanas y hermanos, soy una mujer mejor gracias a mi crianza y a mi experiencia como hermana mayor.
I think that the time of being the youngest daughter was short, but soon I had the satisfaction of taking care of my younger brothers, today they are all good people, women and men committed to their family, honest and hardworking, I feel that I fulfilled my role well as an older sister and I still continue to enjoy that privilege of being alive and in constant contact with all my sisters and brothers, I am a better woman thanks to my upbringing and my experience as an older sister.
