Wednesday Walk: Guo Pei's Couture Fantasy, Part 1

Yesterday, I visited the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco to view the exhibit of Guo Pei.

I wore a mask the entire time masks are no longer required but strongly recommended. I purchased an audio tour, and the exhibit was fantastic and mind-blowing!

Guo Pei grew up during China’s Cultural Revolution, dreaming of beautifully embroidered dresses.

As she grew up, she did produce ingenious and delicate embroidery on clothes which was presented on runways across the globe.

The designs she is showing exist
somewhere between

fashion,
theater,
sculpture,
and
performance.

"Guo Pei: Couture Fantasy celebrates the extraordinary designs of Guo Pei.

She is hailed as China's first couturier.

The exhibit highlights her most important collections from the past two decades shown on Beijing and Paris runways.

Through exquisite craftsmanship, lavish embroidery, and unconventional dressmaking techniques,

Guo Pei creates a fantasy that fuses the influences of China’s imperial past, decorative arts, European architecture, and the botanical world.

Through her stunning fashions, the exhibition reveals the trajectory of Guo Pei’s career...

...as remarkable yet emblematic of China’s emergence as a leader in the fashion world in the early twenty-first century."
