Wednesday Walk at a Farmer's Market in MyCalifornia

First thing first! These palm trees... they were planted in 1904!

Woodland Library Block Palm Trees

Mayor Richard H. Beamer (1849-1916) personally purchased and supervised the planting of the Canary Island date palms rising majestically in front of the Woodland Public Library. California fan palms were added in the planting strips bordering the library on First and Court streets shortly after the library was constructed in 1905.

Beamer’s palm landscape was known as “Library Park.” The Canary Island palms have grown tall and gracefully sway in the seasonal breezes, are evergreen, and complement the Mission Revival style architecture of the library, inspired by the romance of Spanish California. Calling the palms “his monuments,” Mayor Beamer personally cared for the palms until they were established. Richard H. Beamer left a legacy of trees. A highly accomplished public figure and businessman, Beamer loved planting trees as his “hobby.” Beamer’s beloved palms at the library and along Palm Avenue in Beamer Park live on. In 2005 the Woodland city council designated the Canary Island palms at the library “landmark trees” based upon their historical significance.

Okay, on to the Farmer's Market...

If you simply want to shop and chat with someone, come to our Farmer's Market in town! Everybody knows everyone. It is rather small.

I bought salsa, just to buy something. It is locally made and very fresh. It is called El Rey Chili Company.

Mix it with rice before you boil the rice to cook, it will surely make a darn good Spanish Rice!

The Upper Crust Baking Company is local a local bakery of Davis. It's the next city, some 5 miles from me. I live near the city boundary. But of course there is some 30 miles of farmlands before the Davis City proper.

Next time, I'll take photos of the Davis Farmers Market which is four times larger than this one.

Chatting, chatting away!!!
Chatting like friends would.
"How's you dog?"
"Oh, she is gone."
"Oh, I'm sorry"
"Yeah."

I leave. Without a goodbye

Ciarlo Fruit and Nut is a small producer of extra virgin olive oils, also local to us. I love their Balsamic Vinegar. They just don't make regular and red wine Balsamic Vinegar. They likewise make blackberry, or blueberry, or cherry, or fig, or pomegranate Balsamic Vinegars!

I like our small town.
It is easy to navigate...
I mean people, and things.
It is less complex.
No aggravation.
Simple.
