Preparations for a Simple Thanksgiving

When I am cooking a large meal, I usually write down the main courses and the basic ingredients for each one, then I stick it next to the oven door.

This way, I can do my cooking in an orderly fashion. Having a double oven helps as I can have two courses in the oven and schedule the cooking.

While the oven is busy, I do all stove top work. Normally, I'd have the outside grills running too. But today, I did all the cooking inside. Besides, it is just simple dinner feast.

The sides I prepared were Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Cranberry Sauce, and Gravy (from scratch).

I also had Sausage Stuffing with Parmesan Cheese. I made it with sausages, butter, onions mixed in with bread pieces and chicken stock.

And Monkey Bread! Simple to make and everybody loves them.

Sauteed Brussel Sprouts. You know how easy this was!

The wine, bowls for chips, and cheese board are ready.

I made some of the Mushrooms with Cheese and Bacon,

Of course Turkey...I stuffed it persimmons, onions, carrots...

And Ham. This came from a large piece of ham!

For desert... a special, store bought, made of cookies, cream, caramel...

...a Turkey Ice Cream Cake!

Are you getting ready for Christmas?

I wanted to show you how Thanksgiving Day is celebrated here in the United States, particularly what I served yesterday. My home may or may not be typical.

Thanksgiving is a federal holiday in the United States, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It is sometimes called American Thanksgiving (outside of the United States) to distinguish it from the Canadian holiday of the same name and related celebrations in other regions. It originated as a day of thanksgiving and harvest festival, with the theme of the holiday revolving around giving thanks and the centerpiece of Thanksgiving celebrations remaining a Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner traditionally consists of foods and dishes indigenous to the Americas, namely turkey, potatoes (usually mashed or sweet), stuffing, squash, corn (maize), green beans, cranberries (typically in sauce form), and pumpkin pie. Other Thanksgiving customs include charitable organizations offering Thanksgiving dinner for the poor, attending religious services, watching parades, and viewing football games. In American culture Thanksgiving is regarded as the beginning of the fall–winter holiday season, which includes Christmas and the New Year.
