Hello from Kona, Hawaii!
When most people think of Hawaii, they typically envision sand, sun, and beaches. But the Aloha State is much more than that! Did you realize that Hawaii is home to some of the most beautiful flowers on earth?
I thought I would share some of the flowers as I walk around the property where I am staying.
Bougainvillea
This colorful plant is a favorite. Bougainvillea are all over in Kona. It can develop into a bush, a vine, or a tiny tree. It frequently bursts over fences and gates, and in different colors.
The three vivid bracts that encircle the tiny, unassuming blossom are the bright "flower" of this plant. The plant's foliage are plain and have long thorns. Through the interbreeding, horticulturists have produced hundreds of varieties of bougainvillea.
Ixora
The variety most frequently cultivated in the local landscapes is known as ixora, flame of the forests, or jungle flame. Ixora is a rounded, evergreen shrub that grows to a height of 4 to 6 feet or more. It has masses of blooms that show for the majority of the year. Ixora comes in a number of colors, including red, yellow, orange, and pink.
Outsidepride Vinca Periwinkle
This variety of periwinkle is what is common here, It has bright and beautiful flower petals!
Is this plant Red Ginger?
Maβo Hau Hele/Hibiscus
This is a small plant that can reach a height of 15 feet. It blooms all year long, starting in late winter or early spring and it only blooms for a brief period. Hawaiian Hibiscus blooms have a deep red throat and are brilliant in color. It has a stunning, tropical-looking staminal column.
