The "Fuerte de Santa Rosa de la Eminencia " or as we know it in Margarita Island "Castillo de Santa Rosa ", is located in La Asunción, capital of Nueva Esparta state, and is my choice to participate in the #150 contest of the Ladies of Hive community, for which I invite to join my friends @sugarelys and @valrodriguez.
Why did I decide to participate with this historical monument?
Because in principle it is part of my life, even from times I do not remember, because I have baby pictures in this beautiful castle, in fact it was one of our inevitable visits every time we came on vacation to Margarita.
And this "tradition ", we have taken it as ours, now that I have my own family, and with my children, we also visit it since we were babies, and although I have lost count of the times we have gone, it is impossible to stop visiting it.
It is an imposing place, full of history, and who wouldn't want to be inside the walls of a fortress that makes us let our imagination fly and be children once again, imagining fights between pirates and soldiers?
This fortress was built in the 16th century, in one of the hills of La Asuncion, in Margarita Island Venezuela, after being plundered by more than 500 French pirates who landed on the beaches of the island, by the year 1677, so it was a measure to protect themselves from future attacks, since its location allowed them to watch practically the whole place.
But this castle is not famous for this story, but because in its dungeons, was imprisoned, one of the greatest heroines of our country, Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi, who was taken prisoner to pressure her husband, General Juan Bautista Arismendi, to make an exchange of prisoners, to which both refused.
In fact this is the story that the guides usually tell you, when you visit the castle, and while they make the tour, they show you the dungeon where Luisa Cáceres was imprisoned, also, they tell you much of her story, such as that she had her daughter in that dungeon, who died at birth, as a result of the conditions in which she was.
This fort is a place full of history, not only because of its ancient structure, but also because of everything that happened within those walls. It is undoubtedly a place worth visiting if you come to the island, besides, it has a beautiful view, which makes us thankful, not only for everything that surrounds us, but for all those who gave their lives so that our country could reach freedom.
As soon as you cross its huge door, you feel transported to another world, even the air feels different and being in the same place where once heroes and heroines were, is simply incredible.
El "Fuerte de Santa Rosa de la Eminencia" o como lo conocemos en Isla Margarita "Castillo de Santa Rosa", se encuentra ubicado en La Asunción, capital del estado Nueva Esparta, y es mi elección para participar en el concurso #150 de la comunidad de Ladies of Hive, para el que invito a unirse a mis amigas @sugarelys y @valrodriguez.
¿Por qué decidí participar con este monumento histórico?
Porque en principio forma parte de mi vida, incluso desde épocas que no recuerdo, pues tengo fotos de bebé en este hermoso castillo, de hecho era una de nuestras visitas infaltables cada vez que veníamos de vacaciones a Margarita.
Y esta "tradición", la hemos tomado como nuestra, ahora que tengo mi propia familia, y con mis hijos, también lo visitamos desde bebés, y aunque he perdido la cuenta de las veces que hemos ido, es imposible dejar de visitarlo.
Es un lugar imponente, además lleno de historia. ¿Y quién no quisiera estar dentro de los muros de una fortaleza que nos lleva a dejar volar nuestra imaginación y ser niños una vez más, soñando con luchas entre piratas y soldados?
Esta fortaleza fue construida en el siglo 16, en uno de los cerros de La Asunción, en Isla Margarita Venezuela, después de haber sido saqueada por más de 500 piratas franceses que desembarcaron en las playas de la isla, por el año 1.677, así que fue una medida para protegerse de futuros ataques, ya que por su ubicación les permitía vigilar prácticamente todo el lugar.
Pero este castillo no es famoso por esta historia, sino porque en sus calabozos, estuvo prisionera, una de las más grandes heroínas de nuestro país, Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi, quien fue tomada prisionera para presionar a su esposo, el General Juan Bautista Arismendi, a realizar un intercambio de prisioneros, a lo cual se negaron ambos.
De hecho esta es la historia que te suelen contar los guías, cuando visitas el castillo, y mientras hacen el recorrido, te muestran el calabozo donde estuvo presa Luisa Cáceres, además, te cuentan buena parte de su historia, como por ejemplo que tuvo a su hija dentro de ese calabozo, la cual murió al nacer, como consecuencia de las condiciones en las que se encontraba.
Este fuerte es un lugar lleno de historia, no solo por lo antiguo de su estructura, sino por todo lo que ocurrió entre esos muros. Sin dudas es un lugar digno de visitar si vienes a la isla, además, tiene una vista hermosa, que nos hace agradecer, no solo por todo lo que nos rodea, sino por todos los que dieron su vida para que nuestro país alcanzara la libertad.
Es que apenas cruzas su enorme puerta, te sientes trasladado a otro mundo, hasta el aire se siente diferente y estar en el mismo lugar donde una vez estuvieron próceres y heroínas, es simplemente increíble.
